About this product

Product Information

Starting with just four of these stitches, Jane clearly demonstrates, with detailed step-by-step photographs, how to work up a complete project. Instructions follow on showing how to stretch and mount your first embroidery. Using further projects she helps you build up skills, introducing new stitches in each section. Line drawings accompany each design and are used as a guide for the stitches. The designs and colours used are traditional - reminiscent of the embroidery worked by embroiderers during the Tudor period, wonderful floral pictures worked in wool and soft colours. The book is a comprehensive introduction to this lovely technique and at the same time it offers embroiderers practical help with presentation and finishing.

  • BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO CREWEL EMBROIDERY is truly for a novice. If you have no knowledge or experience with embroidery this is the book for you.

This is a very comprehensive book with good illustrations. It starts from the very, very beginning with what items you will want to have on hand before starting to stitch. The explanations are concise but complete, leaving no doubt about what you should do. If one is not a total beginner they may not need this much information but the book does move forward to more complex projects for the more advanced stitcher.

  • Well done book which enhances the art of crewel embroidery

Beginner's Guide to Crewel Embroidery is overall an excellent book for those just beginning the art of crewel embroidery. It has a basic set of stitches which are clearly shown and a few patterns that can be used to create one's own picture or pillow, etc. The only fault is the author could have given the crafter more patterns in the book. Recommended for most craft collections and most library collections.

  • Lovely Book

This is a very good book for a beginner. A number of stitches are well explained through both text and pictures and I found it very helpful. Several patterns are included and they are lovely - very traditional, very pretty. I'm glad to have this book and recommend it to others, too.
