A disappointing departure from the more complex, more engaging Zillion, Zillion II: The Tri Formation is a decent game, but it doesn't live up to its predecessor. Unlike the original, this game has side-scrolling shooting rounds (every other level) in which players ride (and sometimes fly) a futuristic motorcycle. The other levels involving running and jumping on platforms, riding elevators, infiltrating rooms and shooting enemies. Power-ups are available for upgrading your laser gun. In addition to being inferior to the original game, Zillion II has busy background graphics that sometimes confuse the action.

Sent from a distant outpost at the extreme edge of the Planetary System, the garbled message told of a new, gigantic Norsa Battle Fortress at the edge of the Norsa Galaxy. Apple and Champ, two members of the elite White Knight special peacekeeping force, immediately set out on a reconnaissance mission to investigate the Norsa Fortress. The last words which anybody heard from Apple and Champ were: "Help us J.J.! Baron Ricks has...". JJ is now up against the new Norsa Empire facing Olivion Platoon Captain Radajian Defense Leader, the Alleevian Supreme Commander. i was hoping that zillion 2 was like zillion but it wasn't at all. besides that disappointment, it's still difficult like the 1st one & there's lots of shooting like the 1st one. i liked it but didn't love it.
