I watched a few episodes with a friend and liked it so much I had to have the whole series. Stephen fry and Hugh Laurie do a superb job of recreating Jeeves and Wooster. There are so many subtleties to these stories that I can see myself watching them over and over.

The series itself is a stitch to watch. The display, not so much. It was recorded in a "full screen" format, but it renders on a wide screen with a horizontal stretch. Yes, I can (and do) override that, but I have to return to "let the source specify the aspect" mode afterward, or my wide screen stuff gets squeezed into the full screen aspect ratio. DVDs have a setting that tells the player how it should be rendered. They didn't use that.

I was never interested in this DVD program until I listened to and enjoyed immensely - an audio book about Jeeves and Wooster - then I decided to buy this DVD program and I'm very glad that I did. My wife and I have enjoyed watching Bertie's (Hugh Laurie) escapades and the way that Jeeves (Stephen Fry) "saves the day" and resolves all problems with a stroke of genius - and then all the puzzle pieces fit together perfectly and everyone's issues are set to right with the "domino effect" of Jeeves' brilliance. Bertie Wooster always ends up in trouble (it's attracted to him like a magnet - even if he's just standing there minding his own business) and Jeeves always ends up coming to his rescue (the solution is dependably close at hand when Jeeves is called on to give advice or lend assistance.) This is mainly a "for fun" series, but there is some interesting social commentary on British aristocratic society of the early 1900's and the relationship between Jeeves and Wooster is brilliantly portrayed by Stephen Fry as Jeeves and Hugh Laurie as Wooster. They have a great relationship that reminds me of Sam and Frodo of the "Lord of the Rings." Although Jeeves' interest in Bertie Wooster is more in terms of "bringing him along" or "making something of him" (which we get a delightful glimpse of occasionally when Jeeves is at his Valet club with other valets speaking candidly of their employers.) This is in contrast to Sam, who is as indispensable to Frodo as Jeeves is to Wooster, but Sam doesn't recognize or appreciate his value to his "master", or if he does, Sam doesn't assert himself and minds his place, unlike Jeeves. If you are looking for something funny and clever, I would recommend this DVD set.Read full review
British comedy at its very best. P. G Wodehouse's delightful Jeeves and Wooster books are perfectly portrayed and brought to life by Stephen Fry (the all-seeing, all knowing Jeeves) and Hugh Laurie (Bertie Wooster, the idle rich, eccentric and not too bright master). A wonderful adaptation of the books. Highly engaging, delightful and wonderful to watch over and over again. I would highly recommend this box set to anyone who loves British comedy, especially those who love the 1920's/early 30's period. A must have for your dvd library!
The best portrayal of both Jeeves and Wooster - Fry and Laurie really captured Wodehouse's humor. I decided I had to own my own copies, not have to search for whichever service "has" it streaming now. Very, very happy!!!
