    Great Music, Strange Lyrics!

Musically it is a great CD. Leans more towards jazz than rock with some great session players on this CD. Lyrically it is a bit strange. I know Steely Dan has a tendency towards campy lyrics but I can't understand the meaning of most of their songs on this CD. Donald Fagen's voice was starting to fade at this point in his career but if you are a big Steely Dan fan like me I would recommend adding it to your collection.

  • grammy winner.. but not their best lately..

i bought 2 against nature, soley because it won some grammys. i first bought the ''everything must go'' cd because i thought.it.was the grammy winner. i listened to the e.m.g. cd for a couple of years. it is great. upbeat for them. so i thought that 2 against nature would be even better. not so. its musically excellent of course. but a little boring. even for them. good songs, but none of them memorable for me. if your a fan you will be happy. but for sure you should buy ''everything must go'' its won no grammys, but its better. rick

  • Was it worth the 20 year wait for SD's new album? YES!

20 years after Steely Dan's last studio album, Gaucho, we have been re-introduced to the greatest band of the 70's. The wait was worth it. Granted, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (the driving force behind SD) released "solo" projects that they worked together on (and I recommend all, especially "The Nightfly" by Fagen), but this is the first SD studio album since 1980. "Two Against Nature" takes off beautifully with GASLIGHTING ABBEY, a heavily bass-influenced tune about a love triangle. GREAT song, funky and jazzy with a new edge to the old SD sound. WHAT A SHAME ABOUT ME is an awesome self-loathing, soul searching tune about how cruel life can be if you let it beat you down. The music is heavy on keys and guitar and has a great jazz backbeat. Pure SD negativity and sarcasm. The title ...

  • Do you Like Steely Dan

One of their later offerings and classic Steely Dan sound. Not my favorite of their stuff by any means, but if you're a fan, this is still one to have.
