  • Almost as good as it gets for the 939 socket. Fast, smooth, reliable!

I needed to raplace the processor on my computer and I needed a solid new processor with the 939 base. The old processor was an Athlon 64 X2 3400 and it did a solid job while it lasted. At first I was looking for the "4800+" 939 base processor but the price was amazingly still very high, so I decided to get the 4200 one. And I was very surprised on what an improvement this was compared to my old one. I expected some improvement in speed and computing power, but this one turned out to quite a big improvement. Everything works much faster and smoother now. All in all - a very good processor for a very affordable price.

  • Better than equivalent single core and may extend lifecycle of an older PC.

I needed an upgrade for an aging gaming rig (it still had an Athlon 64 4000+). The system is used by my partner to play TF2, mostly, but also L4D2, Killing Floor and some other older multiplayer games. The single core just couldn't cope anymore. TF2 had serious problems, despite it needing low specs, the single core aspect was causing a number of seperate problems. The Ahtlon 64 x2 4200+ 2.2 GHz doesn't sound like much higher (4000+ to 4200+) but it has made an incredible difference. TF2 no longer has issues, neither does L4D2. Multi-tasking (steam overlay, videos in the overlay browser, even multi-tasking on the desktop) is leaps and bounds beyond the old single-core CPU. If you need a quick fix to an aging system that you're running into the ground or until it needs replaced/fully ...

  • 4200+ has been my back up for a few years

It's not going to change the world relative to some of it's newer counterparts, but if low heat and damb reliable are what you require, there are many good things to consider with this chip. The price, around $50 delivered All of them I've used are marked 2005 Never had one fail, and we've swapped a bunch as upgrades from old P4's my '06 gateways (off lease) have one and still game well with 4830's & 6gigs of ram, neighbors don't get to play with my big box AMD, when you don't want to break the bank, but still want to see the pretty colors. Get you one.

  • AMD Athlon 64 dual core upgrade a hit!

Breathe new life into an "old" (5 years) PC. Even though my OS and BUS are only 32 bits, upgrading the processor to a dual core 4200+ from an Athon 64 3500+ was a great move. PC boots and responds much faster, and it was easy to do (drivers are readily available) on my MSI socket 939 MB. Used same cooling solution as for the single core, adn temp is still only 50C under full load.

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.2GHz

This is a major upgrade if you are coming from any old single core sempron processor. It fits the same socket, and it will speed up things you didn't even know could go faster. This is a great processor for the price, so you don't have to upgrade to a newer motherboard.
