Not too expensive and way faster than a sempron.
This is a weird processor I must say. For one, windows and linux couldn't identify the name of it. Nor is the name in big print on it's pcb. I later discovered after getting a magnifying glass for the tiny print that this is the (unknown to me at the time) amd v120. I have never heard of the amd "v" series of processors before. How I ended up with one was not by buying it. I had a working laptop with a sempron, and a dead laptop given to me. The dead laptop was amd powered, so I tore it apart. Dead laptop didn't have a sempron, nor did it have a dual core. I was fine with this as it's still an upgrade from a sempron. The v120 is single core, but man, it's so much faster than a sempron! I'd like to say it 4 or more times faster than a sempron. It was the difference between slow desktop ... This is a weird processor I must say. It was the difference between slow desktop use to being able to play 3d accelerated games more than realistically (the sempron was the bottleneck for the gpu). The thing I learned later about this processor was not only that it's an S1 socket size (S1 = socket 1...amd's socket size for laptops), but that S1 has different generations of processor with the same socket size for all. For example, if you have an S1G2 (socket 1 generation 2) processor, and your laptop came with an S1G3 processor; despite the fact that you can mount that S1G2 processor on the motherboard no problem, it will not work with a motherboard that takes S1G3 processors. It's more than just about having the same socket size with amd laptop processors i'm sorry to say. Different generations of S1 processors are not backward compatible. As in S1G1 processors for S1G1 motherboard, S1G2 processors for S1G2 motherboard, etc. This part of the review is me saying beware upgrading your amd processor... in a sense. As long as you find out what S1 generation your amd laptop takes, and you buy the associated S1 generation of sempron, turion, amd v, etc., then you'll have a successful upgrade. This is why for the listings of my amd processors I stress what generation of S1 they are. Back to the processor. Over all: if you have a sempron, needing something faster, but not enough money for a dual core amd processor? Then get the amd v120. You will be pleasantly surprised and happy with this processor.
