field guide means very small book

Book was very small and has small pictures which are very little help in identifying trees. Pictures and descriptions are separate and its a pain switching back and forth. Was hoping for a full size book with a large picture of each tree accompanied by a smaller picture of leaves bark and nuts, and a nice description under pictures.

  • A good and quick reference guide...great for kids too!

This is a very informative, quick and easy to use reference guide that has good color pictures and wonderful references to many North American trees. Not every one is listed in here but I found many to most are. It has been my field guide since I was a child using my mom's. Without it, I would be very lost as to what kinds of trees are in my area. I also love it's compact size instead of being a big, bulky, hard to carry around study guide. I haven't found it's equal or better yet. I use mine every year and I think every household should own a copy. A great family resource tool.

  • Tree Book

I got this book to identify trees for firewood. It has no information on how wood burns but that is not its purpose. I have no idea what tree is what and with this book I have been able to pretty easily identify trees when they have leaves. It has a kind of leaf index in the front which makes finding the trees fairly fast. The pictures are very clear and show both the leaves and bark. With the pictures of the bark, the drawings of over all tree shape, the maps that show where the trees grow, and the general description I think it will be possibe to somewhat identify trees when they do not have leaves although not as accurately. I looked at several other tree books and this one clearly seems the best for identification but maybe not for information.

  • A must have for anyone who enjoys nature

The Audubon Society field guides are the best series of nature identification books that I have seen. They have very nice color photos that make it easy to identify what your looking at. The books also have descriptons of what your looking at. They are small enough to fit in a cargo pocket so you can easily take it with you when going outside. In my opinion these books are a must have for anyone interested, or curious about nature. Knowing what your looking at is nice.
