This splitting maul is good quality, well designed, and very effective for splitting medium and large logs. I cut down a ash tree that was about 30 inches across at the main trunk. I was able to get clean splits with one single hit on most of the logs that were 18 inch across and about 19 to 20 inches long, with just moderate force swings. The logs that were 10 inches across or less, split clean almost effortlessly, basically just raising the maul and letting the weight of it fall on it's own. All of the wood was split in December (temp in the 40s Fahrenheit) within a couple of weeks after cutting the tree down. And, this was a green tree, not a dead one. And, I don't have much experience with splitting wood either, this was the first time I've ever split this much wood. I had watched a few YouTube videos of splitting wood, and one problem that I saw people having with other splitting mauls and axes was that they would get stuck wedged in half split logs and they would have to struggle some to get them out. That really didn't happen at all with this maul. The very few times that it didn't split clean in two, I was able to lift the handle slightly and the maul slid right out without any force. I wasn't just satisfied with this maul, I was very impressed with it's performance, and with it's design and quality. I highly recommend this maul. I think the price is a bit much for what it is, but you definitely won't be disappointed that you bought it, and it should last for many years if it's not abused or left out in the sun and weather when not being used.Read full review

Don't read my review, just go out and buy one. The first time I saw this wood splitter (at a friends house) I thought it was ugly and a gimmick. I don't have access to a hydraulic splitter anymore. So....I've been splitting wood by hand all spring. Don't get me wrong, I love the focus and meditation of splitting wood......but my wrists have been bothering me. I have other Fiskars garden tools, and based on their performance, I went ahead and watched a few online reviews. Based on the vibration dampening alone, I decided to get the Pro Maul....regardless of looks. Wow! I am glad I did. This thing blows through rounds of wood! In fact, I wear mountain bike knee and shin guards because the wood blows apart, often toward me..... The last tree I spit was a Sweet Gum (Liquidambar styraciflua), known for being hard to spit (outer grain grows in a tight spiral). And this splitter made easy, almost fun, work out of it. If you have more than a day's worth of wood splitting to do, you have to buy this maul. I looked all over the internet for the best price......and the best price I found was at Ace Hardware.....the lowest price, with free delivery as an option. Not to mention Fiskar's amazing warranty. Weight isn't an issue. I'm 138lbs and can swing this all day. Read full review

This Maul is awesome I've been burning wood for about 20 years split all the wood by hand and this is by far the best working Maul. It blows right through the wood easy to split wood just goes flying it doesn't get stuck and it really shows its stuff when you're working on hard to split wood or wood with knots the shape let you get the split started very easily and if you need additional persuasion it's designed to be hit with a sledgehammer where are used as one on a wedge the best part is you never have to worry about breaking the handle cuz you're guaranteed for life just send a picture of the broken handle and they'll send you a replacement

After years of splitting cords by hand, I got this after hearing from others how much easier it was to get through the wood. Certainly is more ergonomic and doesn't look like it will break very easily at all. Teamed up with the short handled splitting ax, these two will fly through most types of wood in a breeze.

This tool is beyond belief, works great with a 6 or 8 pound sledge. I also own the smaller Fiskars splitting axe and the 2 tools are awesome together. Great workout as well and no annoying gas splitter. I am 60 years old and with my Stihl 028 Super and this tool cut and split a nice load of ash on site in no time and I am watching it burn right now. Buy one soon for yourself.
