I have been reading this book to our five kids. Our 6, 10, and 12 year olds all really enjoy this book. Even though the chapters are all very short (like 2 pages each), it does not really keep the attention of our 4 and 5 year olds. Some of the names of the characters (which mirror their character traits or jobs) are kind of old fashioned in their terminology, so we do stop periodically to explain the meaning of these words. Overall, though, we are really enjoying reading the book together. Our three oldest kids are all following the Christian symbolism quite well, and even our younger two are getting the big ideas (like the King is God, the Wicked Prince is Satan, etc). My ten year old son likes this book so much that he begs me to keep reading when I finish our allotted chapters for the day. I never read the original (that I can remember), but this version seems very well written and easy to understand for the most part.Read full review
Wonderful children's and family version of the classic, Pilgrim's Progress. This timeless story was originally written in old english is now available in modern language. The reader can more easily plunge this allegory identifying with the main charaacter, Christian, and his journey to the royal city. Christian struggles to free himself of his heavy bag that he carries with him. Any reader will be able to identify with trying to free ourselves of things that hold us back as we move closer to God. The goal is eternity with the King of the universe. A MUST READ!
I am reading this to my grandson, who is 7 years old. I read this to his daddy numerous times when he was a young child. My grandson doesn't ever want me to stop. Begs me to read one more chapter. Tremendous story! Well written for youth.

This is a terrific book! The author did a fine job rewriting Pilgrim's Progress in a way that children can understand. I recommend it for about 3rd grade and up simply because younger kids probably won't get it. A New World of Adventure unit study curriculum does a great Bible study accompaniment for Little Pilgrim's Progress. Both are highly recommended.
This is a great alternate version of the Pilgrim's Progress, made for children with language that can be followed, without sacrificing the themes and characters from the great original. Highly recommended
