1. Author: Aldous Huxley 2. Name of Book: Brave New World, Published in the UK in 1932 3. What made you pick it up: It’s a classic negative utopia novel that I have wanted to read for quite some time. 4. Brief Synopsis of the book: Set in London in 2540 (or AF 632), the novel anticipates developments in reproductive technology, biological engineering, and sleep-learning that combine to change society. The Society that is developed in this “future” is one of complete control over the masses. The result of this mass control is manufactured humans that are developed in a “human Plant” from test tubes. Each person is manufactured to do a different job than conditioned for there specific role. The conditioning is done through a process of Sleep-Learning. Where they implement the use of subtle messages replayed over and over during the course of the night. The result is a very scary glimpse of human control through genetic engineering. The main concept behind there theory is to keep everybody happy all the time. They do this by eliminating family, cultural diversity, art, literature, science, religion, and philosophy. With a substitute of promiscuity and a drug called Soma that is a powerful drug taken to escape pain and bad memories through hallucinatory fantasies. A highly insightful novel that will leave you pondering exactly where the Human race as a whole going? The Novel picks up the story of two main characters and the savage that is introduced to this pristine society. You get to see the struggle of a human being revolted by what he encounters. The real pain and suffering that can be involved in a planned society. 5. Do you recommend it: I highly Recommend this Novel!Read full review
