Whatever type of addicted loved one you may have, or even if you just feel that you are a co-dependent, this book will change your life. I've read this book over the years and along with Al-Anon have learned a new way of thinking and LIVING! Before this book, I was in a black hole of co-dependency. I don't know what I would have done without the help of this book in my struggle to climb out of the black hole. I've had numerous copies of this book and have given many of them away to people who were desperate like I was so I have to keep ordering new ones. This book is a must-have for co-dependents. The author is brilliant.

This book had some helpful advice but personally I felt it was like an AA 12 step program book. If your a recovering alcoholic and religious then you may like this book but for me that was a bit repetitive and irritating. The one thing I did like is it just has short readings for each day. Honestly some people may really like it but it wasn’t for me.

I have bought this little book for at least a dozen people. Anyone who has had some trauma in their childhood can benefit by reading this daily. Whenever they start the book, I suggest they sit quietly and read 10 pages at a time from the beginning to catch up and experience the wonderful insight into recovery. Also, read each day, starting from day book is received. Go forward with both suggestions until end of year and then start over again. I’m on my 25th year of reading and it stills great value.

If you're one of the millions of people who love too much and for the wrong reasons, this book deserves a place in your library--not on your bookshelf, but on your bedside table or somewhere else where you are likely to pick it up, read it, and absorb its wisdom on a regular basis. 'The Language of Letting Go' contains 366 meditations to assist the reader in letting go of codependent thoughts and behaviors--one for each day of the year, including leap years. The book can be used in two ways: It can be used as a daily devotional by reading and reflecting on each day's meditation as part of one's daily routine or by using the topical index to find readings on a particular issue with which you may be struggling at the moment. The amazing thing is that even if you read the entire book over the course of a year--one meditation each day--you can start the book over at the beginning of the next year and find new things that you missed the first (or second... or third...) time around. While picking this book up and reading it daily makes a wonderful new year's resolution, you shouldn't wait until January 1 rolls around to start reading it. Start on any day of the year, wherever you are on the calendar, and make it a part of your daily routine. Whether you're working a twelve-step program like Co-Dependents Anonymous (CODA) or Al-Anon, or whether you just need a daily dose of sanity as you navigate the troubled waters of your interpersonal relationships (romantic or otherwise), 'The Language of Letting Go' can be an excellent guide and companion. If you like this book, you may wish to check out Melody Beattie's other titles on codependency including: 'More Language of Letting Go' and 'Codependent No More'.Read full review
This book is written in an easy-to-read style, with a short section for each day. No one day is more than a page or long, and some are far shorter. An easy way to begin your day, which is how I begin mine. The topics are diverse, the words are carefully chosen so all are necessary, and the article gets straight to the heart of the matter whether it be codependency, indecisiveness, grieving over the loss of a loved one, difficult people at work, gratitude, love, or many other topics. Once she makes her point very decisively, she leaves the reader with a one-line thought for the day to ponder or to work on for that day. I'm not a big self-help book person but this is not your ordinary self-help book. This is a book which will open your mind to topics you may rather not think about and remind you that those very topics you have been hiding from are those things which are hindering your recovery. She may also open your mind to the beauty that we often forget about - the beauty of our world around us and remind us that if today is bad, to acknowledge that is where we are today and that tomorrow will be another day. If you own no other book while you are in recovery, own this one. I was a complete skeptic - after reading the very first reading when it came in the mail, I was sold. May it challenge you as it challenges you. May it also comfort you as it comforts me.Read full review
