Big Al is a simple story brought to life with wonderful illustrations. My daughter and I have read our first copy until it came apart. So we were quite happy to find another copy of this book in such great condition (and reinforced to boot). The story is about being ostracized because you are different, in Big Al, the fish is big, scary, and intimidating to the other fish. I will admit that for a 2-3 year old I did not see the need to emphasize "scary" so we substituted "ugly". As you can guess by the end of the story, Big Al is loved by all.
Big Al is a precious story about friendship, lessons in acceptance differences. No matter what things appear to be on the outside, the best is usually found inside from the heart. Such is the way of Big Al. The illustrations are stunning and will catch the eye of any reader young and old. Text is limited and wil hold the attention of little ones. I lost my copy and am so glad to have one back in my collection.
