Canon quality + Pretty + powerful. Well built with Magnesium frame in an unusual design. Controls seem very accessible and well placed. Lens sports an impressive amount of glass & makes for a very noticeable, unique system. Throw in the availability of mini DV tape or chip. The decent battery time helps a good bit. The controls seem well placed and accessible. Time will tell as I am able to find those weaknesses and the strong points in both the camera and myself. Oh yes , and did I mention just how pretty she is?

I purchased this Canon H1 because I owned the Canon XL2 since 2004 or 2005 and even though I could of purchased another camera with a 4k higher image quality & definition at a cheaper price however I am so familiar with this brand and how to get what I want out of its many options and at under 2 grand is way less than I paid 10 years ago for the XL2 at 8 grand CAD brand new.I saw that the Canon XL2 looks good for one thing it holds a powerful news media image which has brought me good service in restaurants on vacation.Though and still works great after years of abuse. What I disliked about this product is shortly after purchasing the Canon XL2 I asked the dealer if they planned on coming out with something better soon they told me that there was nothing on the agenda for a newer model and they marketed the Canon XL H1 suitable for the new HDV changes within that year so that was one disappointment.As for the Canon XL H1 I like this one the best widescreen viewfinder multiple zoom options and the rain cover is better than I expected also.I like this model compared to most camcorders because of the multiple frame rates that make it easier for me to convert different types of mm films to a video file with great captivating the original colors in the film shots.Read full review
We wanted this older camera for the quality of the len(s!) After all, it's a canon! Only DOWN FALL? It's tape based. 60 minutes of record time. Wish they for saw the future by including within the final design. SDI AUDIO OUT TOO. Just SDI VIDEO OUT. So it's hard to convert to a external recorder. With only video!

The camera is a excellent camera for both areas of my business. I do wedding engagement shoots, love stories, dvd invitations, and then corporate commercials with the XL-H1 for my www.creativeproposal.com company and also my www.zellcreativegroup.com company. Excellent optics. I have never been disappointed by my Canon products. Am fully able to do manual tweaks with this camera, and the right weight for what I need it for with my Steadicam flyer. Also it's great for Chroma Keyeing with the HD-SDI output from it with theater like image detail. EXCELLENT camera!!!
The XL-H1 is a global "best Camera", now 10 years old, its a first camera, with all you need, or can add on, or attach. Inow have 4, which I use for my studio. Its an excellent camera, and can be program,med to run on a vast array of frame rates, interlaced and progressive, even 24P
