PROS: It has a 32x optical zoom, a HDD and SD memory card slot (no risk of family footage being turned into coasters), a very simple to use, ergonomic design, includes video editing software, can record up to 22 hours of video, and has 1 touch DVD burning. CONS: DC outlet is located under battery, no light, non-integrated lens cap. I really like this camcorder. It has all the features I need, at a very reasonable price. It feels like it is very well put together, and is made in Japan (pretty rare these days). The many pros certainly outwiegh the cons. The minor inconvenience of having to remove the battery to connect the dc power when connecting the camera to the computer is trivial, and I don't realistically expect to need to do any night video recording. The lens cap is removable (and therefore losable), but again, not really a big deal. The 32x optical zoom is a feature I love, though you do have to sacrifice the larger CCD processing units. However, having seen the quality of the video recording, I don't see the big deal. The color reproduction is very good, and the picture is crisp in all the light conditions I have encountered. If you've got the cash, for $600-700 you can upgrade to the SDR-H200, which has all the bells and whistles: more menu options (that most would neve use), a light, a 3CCD processor, integrated lens cap, included 512MB SD card, remote, etc. But personally I'd rather have 2 of these. I consider this the best option at this price point, and I'm very happy with my purchase. Hope this helped (and if it did, remember to click yes below!). Thanks!Read full review
Included in this auction are the following: - Panasonic SDR-H18 video camera - Lowepro camera bag - two lithium ion battery packs - power cord with charging station - usb cable - user manual Perfect for taking on a trip or recording long events. Extended recording for extended shooting fun. The internal 30 GB hard disk drive holds as much video data as about 22 8-centimeter DVD discs. That means you can record for around 27 hours without changing a disc, tape or anything else. This SD Card/Hard Disk camcorder is perfect for people who want to shoot for hour after hour without worrying about memory space. SDR-H18 Highlights I bought this as a gift for my daughter and I don't think I could have bought another camcorder that she would enjoy using as much as this one. She let me know that it was the best camcorder she has ever owned/used because it was simple to use and it recorded for a long time. The seller sent an extra battery, so that was a little plus and she is enjoying "morphing" pics of everyone. I did a little research online & decided this was the best camcorder for value & price. I believe this is the best item I have ever won on ebay!Read full review
This was a gift for someone and the camera works very good and is easy to work. I also purchased an extra battery which is very much needed if you plan to use much. The hard drive holds plenty of movies and should be all a person needs for home use. The one thing I was not satisfied with was that when downloading to the computer you need the electric power supply to be plugged in. It will not download with the battery and the battery has to be removed to plug the power cord in. This is not a major deal except when you want to download something small and then have to find the power cord. Overall I am very happy with the quality and performance of this camcorder. Would recommend it.
I like the size of the camera..very comfortable in my palm. It fits on a mini tripod well and is well balanced there. The camcorder allows the photographger to have a choice of where videos and still photos can be saved. For example, my videos go on the hard drive and stills go on a 512 mb SD card. Everything downloads very easily, but I am especially pleased at being able to burn a DVD directly from the camera without having to go through any video editing software. The picture quality, colors and clarity, are great. The price was right on this one. The person I bought it from was excellent to deal with.
This camera lives up to all of its best reviews. For family use, making basic videos to be shared with those closest to us, it is more than what is needed. The menus are easy to navigate, the camera is small and light, and it has plenty of memory built in. The negative reviews seem to be geared for those who are looking for something a little more advanced. I have used it in some fairly low light and it works as well as can be expected. I have also used it with Apple software with great ease.
