This came well packaged and with an extra battery. The only problem is a small rotary switch that is used to scroll and select items in the setup menu is a little defective. Otherwise the playback is perfect (that is all I got it for, to convert 100+ 8mm tapes to digital.) Clean and without any signs of wear.

I needed to replace my Sony DCR TRV310, which quit working. These cameras made about 10 years ago use the digital 8mm tape. They quit making that format years ago. The camera is also your VCR, and I had no way of playing the tape. So I needed a camera compatable with mine. Use the same battery, charger, connections, and be able to hook to my computor for download. After doing tons of research, only 5 cameras fit the bill. I watch, and bid on cameras for weeks, and I had a set price. Then one day, a seller but one up with Buy It Now. I checked all the specs on it, and read the listing over a few times, and jumped on it shortly after he listed it. So far, the camera has worked fantastic, with no issues. I feel very fortunate that I got the camera for what it was listed for. I was bidding on cameras, and losing at much hire amonts. So for me, it was a fantastic value, a very nice camera, and I was very pleased with it, and the seller. If I find another one at a good buy it now price. I may purchase it just to have a spare...Read full review
This is a great video camera that is extremely versatile in that it works on analog (8mm and Hi8) and digital (using Hi8) signals. Because of this it is a wonderful tool for digitizing old 8mm and Hi8 cassettes. For a PC it comes with a DV to serial cable to hook it to the computer. In my case I wanted to hook it to a Power Mac dual G5 running OS X 10.5.6 using iMovie 09 as editing software. I had to buy a DV to Firewire 400 cable from eBay for $2.20. I plugged the cable into the camera and then into my Mac and was immediately able to download videos from my old analog tapes (8mm and Hi8). The only hiccup was that some of the on screen camera controls did not work, but after searching Apple's FAQs I found that you must make sure that the camera date and time are set. After I did that it allowed for one button downloads. iMovie 09 has some great new automated features like image stabilization and sound enhancement. I also bought a Firewire 800 cable and it works equally as well. A user manual in PDF format is available for free from Sony at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=DCRTRV520&LOC=3. Having the document in a searchable electronic format is extremely handy. Much better than leafing through a paper booklet.Read full review
I was lucky enough to find this camera, I have the same model and a lot of videos I've took with it, now I am transferring those videos to the computer, I've decided to look for a backup after experiencing a small failure, too many movies at stake!

If you've never used a camcorder before and looking for a easy- good product Sony is great. Easy to understand guide manual. Inexpensive gadgets to go with it. I am using it for paranormal research. The electrical plug keeps it functioning while others investigators are having their batteries drained. LOVE IT...Thanks
