Yes, you could buy less expensive outlet strips, and they would probably have surge protection, but they won't be WireMold UL300BC outlet strips. WireMold is an industry standard in power distribution and wire channeling. The only thing I have against this product is that the outlets are turned so that an AC adapter might cover two outlets. But WireMold has an identical strip except with the outlets turned the other way. I can't find a higher quality 8-outlet strip than the WireMold UL300BC! The outlets are tight, but not too tight. Most strips use bare brass contacts, but this one uses nickel-plated brass which is better, because it doesn't tarnish. So, it doesn't lose conductivity. The contacts are nice and springy, so they don't loosen from use. This product will last a lifetime! But, since you don't have surge protection, you can only use this product with external surge suppression. I use a UPS behind the strip, so that has surge suppression. If you already have surge suppression, orif you're juust trying to multiply a conventional outlet, or you don't leave anything plugged into the strip, The WireMold UL300BC is a great choice. The construction is superb, extruded aircraft aluminum, with an on/off switch and 15A circuit breaker. The units are designed for use on a 15A circuit. The outlets are NEMA 5-15R 125VAC 15A. And the plug matches. The unit appears nearly indestructible. The cord and plug are no exception. There are special clips available for wall mounting. The color is an attractive neutral gray. The red switch and black outlets contrast nicely! Read full review
