Like so many people, I have boxes of VHS tapes that are slowly degrading with time. Some don't matter, but for those tapes that I want to save, converting them to DVD seemed to be the answer. After checking prices to have tapes commercially transferred, I looked into conversion software and found Roxio's product. Everything comes in the box, except the VCR. Installing the software and hooking everything up the the computer takes a matter of minutes. VHS, Hi8 and Video8 tapes can be converted at your convenience. Once the tape is on your desktop, an editing program like iMovie, which comes bundled on some Macs, is the next step in saving the entire tape, or choosing select footage. This is very easy software to learn and use, and the price is certainly reasonable.
The VHS tapes were easy to transfer to CD's. HOWEVER, the CDs will not play on any computer or DVD player that is NOT an APPLE computer. Very disappointed when they did not play/work on my Toshiba, but they did play on another family members APPLE computer. I planned on giving family CDs as gifts for Christmas, but many members of my family do not own an Apple Computer. This was the biggest dissapointment with this product.
