This may well be worth a five. I have not had much chance to use it yet so I can't yet quite support that. But in my initial tests it works fine. It is well made. It came with everything it needed. I connected it to a Windows 10 Pro 64 bit notebook computer and it was immediately recognized and installed. The only trial I have had a chance for: Audio taken from the (stereo) headphone jack on a portable radio, fed to the mic input on this box. Fired up "Total Recorder" program and chose that input, and immediately had audio on the programs VU meters. I recorded a minute or two and played it back through some high quality headphones driven by the speaker output of my computer. Results were very clear, no noise or hum. (I had first used an unshielded cable from radio to this box: not surprisingly there was a lot of hum, which is sort of a confirmation that the mic input is quite sensitive. I have not actually measured that, though.)Read full review

The Optical External 6 Channel 5.1 Audio Output Adapter Sound Card USB SPDIF for PC is quite a disappointment because the optical receiver doesn't translate the audio to a recognized format either by the PC or hearing. The software is light in its application of the ports seen on the adapter. A DVD player was used to deliver optical PCM audio to the adapter. A set of headphones were used to listen for the audio. A laptop was used to regulate the controls. No audio was heard. I changed the PCM to bitstream with the same results. I check the optical and it was illuminated. Software needs improvement a way to measure optical signals received. I don't recommend this product.

I found the interface confusing, but the hardware is better than the price would indicate. I got most of the jacks working, but still haven't got any optical ports working.

I needed an external USB sound card with stereo inputs and outputs for a ham radio project. Most only have mono input. I needed stereo as one radio will use the right channel and a 2nd one the left channel for rx/tx. Works great with Linux.

If you don't have a mic or line-level input on your computer, especially laptops, you need this! It gets the job done nicely. Setup can be a pain if you're expecting it to work right away. Once it's connected, make sure all your sound settings are switched to this device, and in your recording software too. You may need to restart your computer for these changes to take effect. Aside from that, it's a handy little box that is more than sufficient for most home users.
