In a word, the Audioengine A2 speakers are amazing. Although small in size, the A2s are big in tones and great for those with budgets. The A2s are not the best speakers around but they are exceptional for their price range. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to hifi speakers, then look no further. The speakers give good bass kicks, however, Audioengine sells a subwoofer that they expect you to buy separately if you are seeking deep bass listening capability. I use the A2s for my Audio Technica AT-PL120 Direct Drive Turntable. These speakers are great for hooking up to your record player. They are ready to go right out of the box. Since I don't listen to records all the time, I also have them hooked up to my desktop computer; which I use everyday. Tones are great and clear. I listen to Spotify while doing almost everything and these speakers are amazing to listen to. I noticed the difference from the very first moment I played some heavy bass music. Definitely the best bang for your buck and tucks away nicely. Nice, loud speakers for most consumers to enjoy daily listening.Read full review

Great speakers for a great price. I love them. Unfortunately they were sent without the proper cables which required me to order them separately.

The Audioengine A2 multimedia/computer speakers are very stylish, self-powered, bookshelf monitors that produce a pretty high-quality sound compared to other available PC speakers. Although, these are not intended for music-production, they have a good sound stage that isn’t overly bright or heavy. The A2s are very petite, taking up minimal space and also have a glossy coating which is easy to keep clean. One of the only negatives about the A2s is that they stuck the volume knob, which also controls the power on the back of the left speaker, making it somewhat difficult to reach. Overall, the A2s are very good speakers, although they might be a little bit pricey for the sound that they produce. I would not recommend these to serious audiophiles as the sound might be a little too distorted, but I think that they are well-suited for most purposes. They are also very nicely packaged and come with everything you need to use them right away.Read full review
I bought the speakers for my home office desk top and they run through a Macbook. They are fairly accurate for such small speakers, recognizing that you can't get deep bass from such a small cabinet. That said, they are nicely balanced when played at a reasonable level with adequate bass and nice smooth highs. They have an excellent midrange that brings out vocals. The amplifier has plenty of power and I usually turn up the volume on the internal amp to about 12 o'clock then adjust it as needed from the Mac volume control. I think they are a good value because the A2+ has a built in D/A converter, which improves the sound more than the built in D/A converter in the Mac. I recommend that you get the support wedges, which direct the sound upwards to your ears if you use them primarily at a work station. It opens up the sound and it becomes more spacious, as well as decoupling the speaker from the desk top, which tightens up the bass. There is information about the speaker support wedges on the Audioengine website. Overall, I am very satisfied with them. I listen to them everyday.Read full review

Over the last few years, I've gone through two sets of computer speakers. Both came in second or third in many reviews, behind the Audioengine a2s. Neither should be rated any where near the A2s, which simply outshine everything else in their class. I wish I would have listened, rather than try to save a few $$ (which, of course, I didn't). Of course, you really can't get a lot of bass out of a 2.75 - inch speaker. Yet, they give the impression of good bass, albeit at the expense of a slight congestion in the lower midrange. This is entirely forgivable in a small, relatively inexpensive speaker. The human voice, as well as all musical instruments, sound natural and clear. Build quality appears to excellent. All in all, an excellent speaker at a good price. Highly recommended.
