The Drobo is an excellent piece of hardware. Designed to store and move data and it does it well without all the bells and whistles. Very easy to set up. Plug in ethernet cable(s) plug in power and turn it on. It will ask for drives as required. Plug them in, once the minimum requirement is met, you can allocate space and are ready to go. If you need to increase the size of your array, add a drive to an empty slot or swap out a smaller drive for a larger one. There are additional apps that can be loaded, available via the device itself or from the Drobo web site. Very easy.

We have used older drobo bf800 NAS servers to run our 30 person architectural firm and never been disappointed. The newer models are much faster and come with an awesome set of apps. We configured with 3-240gb SSD drives + 4-4TB hard drives. The SSD drives are used as transactional memory that really speeds up the system. The built in duel redundant raid allows up to 2 drives to fail without loosing data. A 2nd matching Drobo is used as a destination dive for replication each night. Over 3TB of data is replicated in less than 2 hours.

Hard to find new these days. Great network storage device that once you get setup you literally can forget about. Fast enough with bonded cables.
