If nothing else, using the Surface Dial just feels really good to use. It turns easily, with just the right amount of resistance. Even just using it to scroll webpages feels so good. If I were to compare it to something, I'd say it feels similar to turning a big volume knob. It's fun to even just fidget with. The rumble motor provides satisfying tactile feedback as well. The bottom is a silicone/rubber finish that provides a good amount of friction to keep it from moving around. Dust sticks to it, but it's easy to clean. Functionality-wise, it's easy to pair with your device, just like any other Bluetooth peripheral. It doesn't come with a dongle, so be sure you have Bluetooth or get a cheap Bluetooth dongle. Some apps will have built-in support for the Dial. There are 3 functions per tool - rotate left, rotate right, and clicking. You can create custom tools for apps that don't have built-in functionality. You press and hold the Dial for a moment to switch between tools. This can feel a little slow if you want to switch between different tools often, which sometimes is the case since each tool only has up to 3 functions. When setting up tools, you can choose a modifier combined with a key on your keyboard to make it use almost any shortcut you want. However it feels a bit limited, and much less customizable than setting up hotkeys on a keyboard. You won't be able to make any crazy macros for example. Hopefully they'll add more options and customization in the future.Read full review

Everything that is great about the Surface Dial's hardware is ruined by how lackluster the software support for it is. Microsoft has pretty much abandoned the wheel concept and left it with very limited functionality and customizability. I bought mine to use as an overpriced scroll-wheel so I knew what I was getting myself into, but I think most people buying this would be disappointed.

Words can't describe how amazed I am with the product (a masterpiece to say the least). At first I was worried it would take me some time to get used to It...Nope, turns out it's intuitive enough to feel natural. It's so adaptive and grows with you as you grow with It. I'd give it 10 Stars if I could but this is as good as ratings get. Can be used on and off screen and doesn't even feel used. I recommend this to anyone with a Surface PC (especially Artists and Musicians), this thing packs a knockout punch. 👊

I like the feel and quality of the product. It's a bit limited in functionality at the moment but it works very well with the few things it does. Build quality is excellent the surface brand delivers quality and appearance. Value for money isn't the best, product could be 30% less expensive I feel for what it does to gain more adoption and then work with more programs.

Suface Dial is a very useful graphing and engineering tool. With Dial, I have reduced the number of tasks and gained access to many functions in the shortest possible time. This is a good product and only Microsoft I think is worth the money
