A nice mouse - replaced my old Sensei which was starting to die. Refurb quality is great, and once I got the CPI dialed in it was easy to switch. I do wish Steelseries would build client software for Linux - I am not overly amused by having to use a Windows VM just to change my color settings.

The good lots of buttons that are programmable. The scripting is nice. Some of the buttons do not work correctly, I programmed one to tx a 5 and on startup it sends an endless chain of 5's, Makes it really hard to log in to your computer. After you continuously push the button 10 - 20 times it will stop the repeats but I ended up just turning off the button. It's really hard to push some of the button - but that may just be an unavoidable problem with the mouse design. It's not really comfortable to me hard to hold.

A great quality, innovative mouse, for button needy users- with big hands! Pros: First of all it's a great looking mouse! Feels solid and heavy in the hand and has an excellent quality feel to it! Verry impressive! The unuiqe layout of thumb buttons is great! And verry usefull, after getting used to it.. it feels like a well thought out product, that can really speed up you work or play! The right and left mouse buttons and the scroll wheel feel great! And are very easy to use and responsive. Also the the right and left tilt switch on the roller! Great! Idea! And smooth. The right hand side button works great for something you use a lot like del. The left hand side buttons are harder to reach and press.. but still usefull for less frequent use. The rear thumb paddle is probably the most ingenious thing about this mouse! And just seems perfect for " enter"! Love it! The front thumb paddle is harder to reach but nice too. The four cuircular spaced buttons around the thumb are nice too, the top one being the most usefull and easy to press. The the rear " center thumbrest" button is hard to press, but usefull for commands you don't want to press accidently I use it for " save". The two speed dpi toggle switch is great! And correctly positioned to press it on the fly, without lifting your finger off the scroller... Zoom around the screen at high speed, then toggle to slow speed as you get close to what you want to press, for accuracy! Love it! The software, is very self explanatory and easy to use, with lots!!! Of optioned to configure anything! To be triggered by any button! Great! Cons: Price! Bought it on eBay, for reduced price as damaged package.. never would have risked trying it at full price! Size, my hand are fairly large, and still, it's a big! Mouse! To handle. Feels big and heavy in hand. And even for my large hands.. is almost to big to reach all buttons.. without effort. Buttons, I don't really understand the thinking behind the selection of hard/ soft switches for to he buttons... Some are very hard! Like the top left two side buttons.. almost too hard to press! But the right top side button is perfect! The cuircular buttons around the thumb, the top one is soft and perfect! The rest are hard to press, to the point of making them less usefull... The paddle buttons are soft and perfect, almost too soft.the front paddle is hard to reach. There again.. all this would be less of a problem if the mouse was smaller.... So if you have big! Hands.. less of a problem. Don't! But this if you have small/ weak hands! Summary: Great idea! Great quality! Great looks! Lots of options.. But slightly too big ... And could use some improvements.. like softer buttons. Still - a great product! Verry usefull! Love it!!Read full review

The Rival 500 is the best mouse I have ever used. Before this, I have used the Razer Naga and the Rival 300, and both were good, but not great. The side button placement on the Rival 500 is genius, yet so obvious it's mind-boggling that almost not a single other gaming mouse imitates this. I never understood the number pad style other mice always seem to have, because they are hard to use and not comfortable. SteelSeries has shown with this mouse that they actually understand how a thumb works, leaving a resting place in the middle of the buttons allowing easy access when one needs to be pressed. While using the layout of the buttons takes some practice, it is very easy once you get used to it, kind of like when you are first introduced to a new console controller. The Rival 500 is perfect for anyone looking for a mouse with more than 2 side buttons and sturdy build quality.Read full review

Oh how I wanted to love this mouse, and replace my G502. So close yet so far. I love the idea for thumb button layout, and especially the 3 added buttons on top near the primary left/right buttons. The build quality and sensor are great. MOBA/MMO players will likely give this 5 stars. But there is a missing category for FPS players who want a few extra buttons to act with millisecond firefight timing. The 3 buttons on top would be absolutely perfect if they hadn't made them so hard to press. They purposely did this to prevent "accidental" presses, but this was an unnecessary move, because there is plenty of space to reliably avoid that. What is worse though, is that it prevents any form of rapid clicking which is necessary to maximize semi automatic blaster fire, and thus beating your opponent. The lighting effects are pretty, but don't interest me as having useful purpose. For those judging the mouse as an FPS alternative, I give it 3 stars. Last but not least is the software. It is pure awful awful awful!. They need to learn from their competition, how to vastly improve user interface, layout, and programmability. And they were too cheap to add a simple MEMORY CHIP to save profiles within the mouse (like their competition does) Look elsewhere.Read full review
