I wanted a slightly older WIFI chip that works with Linux and Windows 10. TP-LINK TL-WN851ND fills the need for dual boot and works right out of the box with out manually installing any drivers. It is not "AC" speed. Only "N" speed. Home budget card for internet or streaming videos. PCI long slot works with older rebuilt desktop towers.

The card does what expected with average to above average distance. But on my Win 7 64 system, I'm having a conflict with my USB external audio interface that I didn't have with my old card in the same slot. I also dont have any issues with my USB wifi dongle. So if you use an audio interface, it's hard to recommend it. If not, this card should work fine.

I think this wireless pci adapter would be great in un obstructed areas. I'm trying to connect from the corner of my house to the middle of my detached garage and the signal Is very poor unless I opened several doors between both locations.

Installation was almost trivial. Opened the case, plugged the unit into an empty slot, and then fired up the box. Adapter was recognized on boot-up, the appropriate drivers automatically installed, and connected to my LAN smoothly and effortlessly. Perfect, stable operation ever since.
