When the on-board sound card in my back-up laptop failed I immediately began to research solutions. Replacing the mother board seemed to be overly involved and expensive...nearly the cost of a decent replacement computer. I chanced upon an old review at CNET for the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS and was favorably impressed by it's specs and price. Now the old rig has audio capabilities that exceed its original configuration and I can also use it with a newer Vista laptop.
This is the second Creative Sound Blaster Audigy CardBus (70SB053000012) Sound Card that I've purchased. This is a great audio interface for anyone who does home audio recording projects. It includes many choices of high quality sampling rates, optical SPDIF in and out, and surround sound outputs. It also has sound font capabilities. A very inclusive sound card.
Good old PCMCIA soundcart with many options in drivers. Use this card only with older systems, like WindowsXP or older, on WIndows 7 functions are reduced and there is also chance to get system unstability.
