This is it an amazing little desk, tiny, small enough to leave in your Mac USB port if you want. It is fast, it’s reliable, the best I’ve come across! Just remember how important it is to use disk utility and reformat any extern all disc you will be using with Mac, including this one. Here is the summary I put together for format options for Mac drives, disks Old - FAT32 (can work with Mac or PC, 4 GB file size maximum at one time) exFAT - no limit on file size other than 8 TB partition limit. Also compatible with Mac and PC. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - This is the most Mac specific, and is “case sensitive”, meaning files with different capitalizations are treated as different files. HFS+ is basically the same as the Mac OS Extended(Journaled), very Mac specific, but is not “case sensitive“ or “journaled“. These last 2 are the best for internal or external Mac drives (unless you need to have your disk read and writable also on a windows/PC computer). (NTFS - Windows/PC system). Mac may be able to read this format, but is not able to write to it.Read full review

I bought the competition first. It disconnected in service *constantly*, causing errors to be thrown all over the place. It was essentially impossible to load it up with large files because it couldn't even write one such file between overheating timeouts. This doesn't have that problem. It gets quite toasty, there is no question of that, and it even takes breaks to cool down, but it doesn't totally drop off the map when it does so. It just stops writing data for a second or so, then picks up where it left off. The rated speed is actually conservatively rated. I get a full 150 MB/s reads, same as the competition. As for writes, those vary by device. It seems this drive is quite willing to suck up all the power the USB 3 port is willing to throw at it, and writes are where the benefits show up. On the desktop, connected directly to the port, I can get 120 MB/s writes. Over an extension cable, or on a hub that has its own power, I get a bit better than 50 MB/s writes. If running directly on the USB 3.0 port on my laptop, I get only about 45 MB/s. And of course, this drive will still operate at less than the 0.9A specced into USB3, because it functions on a USB 2.0 port, just considerably more slowly than when connected the way it should be.Read full review

The usb is fast and very portable. It has a bit hole to wrap around a lanyard. I like that it's small but it can get lost. This is my second one but it is attached to my lanyard so hopefully I won't lost it anytime soon.
