If you have good signal for AT&T or T-Mobile in your area, you can set up one of these ZTE WF721 Wireless Home Phone Bases to replace your landline, and save a whole bunch of money every month. You will still be able to use your home phones - especially if you have a cordless system consisting of one base and multiple handsets. You can even still use your home answering machine. You may ask... Why would I bother with such a home phone base if I can just get another cell phone? Well, I'll tell you... If your mother is over 80 years old and has used the same home phones for the past 20 years, she might not welcome a change in technology. But this change in technology can be made almost invisible to her. She can keep the same phone number. She can keep the same phones. She can keep the same answering system. And (this is the great part) ... she can lose the very expensive landline phone bill. It is worth checking with various cell phone carriers. Consumer Cellular, for example, has a talk-only plan that might be about 15 bucks per month. Others might have good deals also. They are very likely to be well below the current price of your local landline. You may also ask... What if the power goes off? Well, these devices have a backup battery, so they will continue to work for a while during a power outage. However, your cordless phone that is connected to it probably will NOT work during a power outage, so keep a traditional phone around for emergencies. You may also ask... Why did I say that the device is lazy? It is somewhat like your teenager. You tell him to go take the trash out, and sometime in the next week, the trash will be taken out (if your teenager is reasonably well-behaved). Likewise, with this device, you tell it to make a call, and sometime (within a handful of seconds) it will comply. It is not quite as instant as you might expect. Likewise, incoming calls get delayed for a little while before they connect. But once they do connect, they work about as well as a cell phone does. Also note that these devices are locked to the AT&T network. They can be unlocked very inexpensively, and will then work on other GSM networks like T-Mobile.Read full review

We bought this to replace a land line with a cell phone line so that we could keep our same phone number. We use a Panasonic cordless phone and answering machine to screen calls and unfortunately when the cordless phone is linked to a cell phone, the answering machine is disabled. This ZTE box is the solution! The answering machine works as if it was on a landline. Also, it appears that the manual online for the ATT version also applies to this unlocked version. The standard T-Mobile SIM card fits and the call quality is great. The only deficit is that it doesn't support FAX.

Used this device to replace a major carrier landline which had a base cost of $40/month without long distance or any calling features like voicemail. Perversely, my neighbors 4 miles down the road were not within my "local" calling zone and I incurred long distance charges whenever I needed to talk to them. The replacement cell phone line used with this device was an add-on cellular line from a relative's account for an extra $15/month which included unlimited minutes to all 50 states within the U.S. Now I call anywhere and everywhere, and I have voicemail and Caller ID on some cordless phones which I connected to this device. Better service, more features, and 60% cheaper -- I'll take it!

This box allows us to connect a base unit and three additional phones to one system and we have great phone service throughout the house and garage. As boomers, it is nice to hold onto a real "receiver" for change! Much easier to hear also! Love the convenience!

This is a good device. I had trouble getting TracFone to accept the imei. When I used the SIM card number, it activated fine. Now my home phone is just less than $9.00 per month.
