As a lover of 90s fighting games, I'm sad to say that I missed out on Fatal Fury and it's sequels. Fatal Fury for the Sega Genesis is a fun and engaging fighter. You can pick between Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, and Joe Higashi. All three are competing in the King of Fighters tournament set up by Geese Howard, a crime boss that murdered Terry and Andy's father years earlier. The objective is to win the tournament and earn the right to challenge Geese and get revenge for the Bogard brothers. The gameplay consists of knowing when to punch, kick or grab an opponent. There are special moves, too, though they're not as spammable as in other fighting games. You can also change the plane of where your fighter is standing in order to dodge stuff or set up a hit on an unsuspecting opponent. It's a pretty nice way to change up the action. I also like that you can choose your first enemy. Sadly, I do have some things that bother me, like only getting three credits default to play. That's not a lot of continues to learn your opponent's moves and strategies. I also didn't like that the AI is very fond of just repeatedly pounding on you so sometimes you don't really get a chance to fight back. Overall, this is a fun fighter and worth playing today. We all know that Fatal Fury started life on the Neo Geo. I must admit, when I first saw this game in the arcades, I was very impressed to say the least. It had huge colourful sprites, lovely backgrounds and it had something to totally distinguish it from Street Fighter. The ability to jump between two planes at will. This was a concept never seen in any other fighting game at the time. Also, lets not forget that two players could team up and beat on the computer opponent. So here we have a review of the Sega Genesis port (Mega Drive if you live in Europe or Japan) by Takara. This port is generally an accurate port. Although it has lost some colour, a bit of animation and two characters in the process. But let's take this one step at a time.
NEO GEO all the way !!!

I remembered this game being a whole lot cooler than it actually is. I bought it because it was an incredible deal, I got it really cheap, but the game is hardly worth the plastic. Not much fun. Point being, I think this is a really lame fighting game, Street Fighter 1 or Pit Fighter are better choices, Streets of Rage...; most fighting games are better than Fatal Fury 1 in my opinion.
