I bought this game because of my love of Spider-Man and NES. Somehow, as a budding youth this game completely slipped under my radar. I was excited to see how an NES SM game stacked up against the Sega Genesis version i had loved to much. This game was headed in the right direction. Spidey, a great collection of villains, I couldn't be more stoked. However, clunky combat really slows the game down. Not to mention terrible AI enemies even for and NES game that won't turn around if you jump over them and mediocre/poor graphics even for the time. You can easily complete levels by simply avoiding enemies and getting to the boss. If you jump over them they won't pursue you... so you can avoid trying to fight them with the odd combat controls. If you are holding left or right when you hit the attack button you will do a drop kick. Problem is it will go right over any normal stationary enemies heads. To punch you actually have to come to a dead stop before hitting attack. giving them plenty of time to get off another attack of their own. You can also pick up web cartridges along the way (which for some odd reason you do not start a level with... way to be prepared Mr. Parker.) but they run out so quick its ridiculous. The web attack replaces your basic attack whenever it pleases it seems. I could not figure out when I would punch and when I would shoot webs. This game all in all is really a missed opportunity in my opinion. I'm sure LJN was simply banking on the Spider-Man name here.Read full review

I have or had been looking for this particular game for about 10 years, until now. I've looked for it in the local used game stores and thrift shops and didn't find it anywhere(this is a very rare game to find). So I decided to look for it on eBay. And I took the chance of getting outbid on it and won it at the last moment. I've been playing the heck out of and I'm having a blast. I like the fact that graphics and sount for a game that is over 10+ years old are excellent. The only thing I don't like, is that some of the levels in the game are short. I haven't beat the game yet but, I'm still trying.
This game is just bad. The graphics are small compared to Sunsoft's and Konami's comicbook games of the same era, and the controls are backwards Acclaim, which is typical. I don't why Marvel kept allowing Acclaim/LJN to keep making this terrible games. The music is forgettable, and I could care less about the Sinister Six after giving this game a few whirls in the NES. I say just move on and forget about it. What really gets me, other than the bad play control and backwards set-up of the jump/action buttons is that I can't just shoot the web out whenever I feel like it. That irks me to the Nth degree. I wanted to like this game, but after giving it an hour, I just couldn't.
