Up for your consideration is a SpeedStream 5100.
Product Information
The Efficient Networks Speed Stream 5100 24 Mbps Modem is a dependable DSL modem, offering easy configuration and a stable connection at an affordable price. The modem can be used alone to connect a single computer for Internet access. Many people add routers to the modem to create a wireless network and connect other devices. The Siemens Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5100 modem offers ease of installation. The device’s smooth curves and small footprint enable the modem to easily fit your available space. The SpeedStream 5100 modem acquires a DSL Internet connection with transfer rates of up to 24 Mbps. This model supports a variety of routing functions, such as UPnP, NAT, DHCP and port forwarding. The SpeedStream modem is equipped with a single Ethernet port to connect one computer or router to access the Internet. Connect a router to expand your capabilities and create a home wireless network to connect additional devices to the Internet with connectivity that rivals broadband. The SpeedStream 5100 bridge mode is used to connect a router to the modem and provide a reliable wireless Internet connection. Change the password on the router from the default password to secure your new network. The modem supports three modes: PPPoE on board, bridge mode and bridge mode with IP address pass issuance. In order to set bridge mode for the modem, you will need to enter the IP address and Modem Access Code from the yellow sticker on the bottom of the modem. Select the Advanced button and PPP locations button. Then select the radio button labeled Bridge Mode and save the changes. At this point, you will need to restart the modem to complete the switch. Once the router is set up, you will disconnect the computer, connect the modem to the Ethernet port, and follow the prompts to complete your router setup. The SpeedStream 5100 modem connects to the Internet using an ADSL interface. The ADSL interface is compatible with any type of computer. The tech specifications and default settings of the SpeedStream modem are designed for reliable service and ease of operation. This model offers wired connectivity with an Ethernet interface and ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL+ protocols. The LED indicator lights make it easy to check the status of the device. There are LED indicators for Power, Ethernet, DSL, Activity, and Internet, which indicated that a PPPoE connection has been established. A glance at the lights will indicate if a problem exists and help you quickly locate the problem. Green lights indicate activity, while red lights indicate a problem in that specific area. This router does not install with its own IP address, like a routing modem. Setup is easy, just follow the instructions in the manual to connect the Ethernet cable to your computer and plug in the power adapter to get started. You will enter the IP address and the Modem Access Code, both located on the sticker on the bottom of the modem. Once you have connected the modem, you will need to use the network user name and password from your Internet service provider to complete the setup and connect to the internet. After the modem is set up, you can connect your router to complete the configuration of your home network and enjoy a better connection for every type of device.

If you are looking for a random DSL modem, and you are considering a SpeedStream ... If you are looking for a random DSL modem, and you are considering a SpeedStream 5100, you should be aware that there are two kinds of them. There is the SpeedStream 5100, and the SpeedStream 5100B. The B, I believe, has a USB port and supports a 'router' mode. (This mode can make things slightly annoying if you already have a router, which might be interested in its IP address). The vanilla variety does not have a router mode. You need to get your computer or your router to use PPPoE to dial a connection. This isn't particularly difficult either. In fact, many people in the know probably prefer the 'bridge' mode.
However, if you are setting up your DSL connection for the very first time, and you're using a bridge-mode-only 5100, and your ISP isn't really aware that such a bridge-mode only model exists, and their tech support keeps trying to get you to connect to 192.168.0.1 (which will never work) instead of just giving you PPPoE credentials, it can be really annoying to spend an hour fighting on the phone to get them to give you registration credentials of something like "attreg@att.net / attreg". Thanks a bundle, SBC-is-now-AT&T! But I digress.
Anyway. Modem works fine.

Part number 060-E141-A08 is a bridge modem only, there is no internal ip address to access any GUI interface. This modem only bridges over the dsl signal to the computer or router and the computer or router must authenticate the username and password to your ISP. This modem can also be distinguished by only have 4 lights on the front of the modem and there will be no sticker on the bottom showing the ip number and no modem access code.
(#2) The second type of speedstream 5100 has a part number of 060-E142-A02. This modem has the internal ip to access the GUI to configure it to authenticate pppoe or be used as a bridge modem. This modem can be distinguished by having 5 lights accross the front and will (or should) have a sticker on the bottom stating the ip address and the modem access code.

Also have purchased this product before and have been extremely satisfied with this product. Item arrived in a very timely fashion and just as described. I just plugged it in, made all the appropriate connections & configurations, and got right up to speed. Using in conjunction with Linksys wireless router for AT&T DSL.
I have not had a need to usea any other modem.

One note, I am using it in conjunction with a Linksys WRT54G wireless router in PPPOE mode in order to 'login' to AT&T because the modem is not configurable by itself. This is OK with me because I was planning to use the wireless router anyway as a means of wirelessly connecting my laptop to the internet.

The picture shows a mounting stand. It was not included and I can not use it in a vertical position as planned.
