Some people have trouble picking their favorite Genesis game ever. It's understandable as the Sega Genesis is one of the most classic systems of all time and there are many incredible games for it. There are tons of hidden and obscure "gems" out there, and many underrated or unknown games. Obviously it's a hard question to answer, but for me, I keep coming back to Ultimate Qix. It's a version of the Japanese Arcade game Volfied (also on Taito Legends for PS2). The game is also called Neo Qix on PS1. But like Mr. Do! on the SNES, this version is actually better than the arcade original. It simply plays smoother with a better learning curve. To describe the gameplay accurately is difficult. It's better to simply experience it. It's a white knuckle thrill ride at times that can be described as an intense arcade game, a puzzler, a shooter, and a strategy game, that is honestly never the same twice and very addictive once you understand it. Remember the game Breakout? It was very average, then along came the Arkanoid series that took the Breakout concept and made it incredibly fun. Well, Volfied/Ultimate Qix takes the old and boring arcade game of Qix and turns it into something incredibly fun. The gameplay is simple: You need only to create a maze/death trap for the Boss and Minions on the screen and kill them or cover at least 80% of the screen. There are also power ups that do things like stop time, stop time and your enemies, increase your speed, allow you to shoot or give you 1-Ups. The way to kill your opponents is to wall them in (as your ship is kind of like a Tron light cycle) and this is also how you gain power-ups, by walling in the squares and flashing squares on the screen. The enemies onscreen cannot hurt you unless you are building the maze so you must do it in tiny sections at a time, because they seem to come at you while you're building the maze, but leave you alone when you're not building. It's amazingly fun despite how it must sound in my description. I remember how stoked I was the first time I got 99.9% by walling in the boss into a tiny little square. And did I mention the boss will get smaller and move faster as the time moves on, but they generally hold still right after shooting at you allowing you to figure out their patterns and come up with ways to defeat them. In closing, I will just say that this game is hands down my Favorite game EVER for Sega Genesis or Mega Drive! Note: The Sega Mega Drive Version is virtually identical and is called Volfied.Read full review

ULTIMATE QIX is a very simple fun game, you play as a ship and the object of the game is destroy the bad guys by shrinking the game area it might sound strange but it's worth playing,
