I have SEVERAL portable hard drives from WD Seagate Toshiba and Lacie. I purchased this SPECIFICALLY for the thunderbolt connectivity. I am a dj and transfer large amounts of music and video and when you can move 20-30 Gigs in minutes instead of hours!!! I backed up 3.75 tb in under 4 hours! CANT GO WRONG!!!!

I shoot Sony 4K 8 bit then edit 1080p videos for Youtube in FCPX on older 2012-2013 Macs with Thunderbolt 2 ports. Newer USB-C drives will not mount to these older TB2 connections, even with Apple's $50 adapter. But this 4TB LaCie Rugged Raid with built in TB2 cable gets consistent write and read speeds above 230 mbps and can edit smoothly in Proxy mode. It works without an AC adapter on my 2012 Macbook Pro, but does require the included AC adapter for my 2013 Mac Pro. I got it new for a very low closeout price. This Raid will struggle with 4K 10 bit RAW files, but it will render them, just slowly. It fits my budget and workflow until I update my Macs to TB3 ports.

For the price, you get a lot of space in a compact and portable hard-drive. The connection is very positive and the processing period is FAST! Granted, it is capable of Thunderbolt connection, but the USB-C connection still provide decent speed when Thunderbolt connection is not available with some devices.
