I've set up two Akitio Nodes, each with a GTX 1080 Ti, in an iMac running Cinema 4D with Redshift. Very easy to setup and I'm NOT a hardware nerd in any way. Many people will tell you to get a PC and use the GPUs internally because of cost/effect ratio, but for me it's worth a drop in performance to be able to stay in MacOS. The fans are a bit noisy. I've bought new fans, but most fans have 3-pin connectors, but the Akitio needs a 2-pin, so I'll need an adapter. If you're interested in a similar setup check out egpu .io.

Hi, I bought my Akitio Node from eBay that I set up with a Nvidia GTX1080, ther is plenty of room in the box for big cards with big fans, the setup is pretty easy, you need a PC/Mac with thunderbolt 3 port and the proper drivers installed. I have an Intel NUC SkullCanyon the i7 version with 4 cores/8Threads with Windows 10, just download the Intel Thunderbolt driver and start the application and Connect the Akitio with you PC, install the Nvidia drivers, reboot the machine and switch the monitor cable from you PC/monitor to Akitio/Monitor and you are good to go with the latest PC games at full speed/fps. If you buy 2m cables you can move you Aktio Node to a more silent place in the room where you can can enjoy your box without the fan noise.

This thing allows you to use an add-in graphics card over a Thunderbolt 3 connection. Your success with this product depends entirely on the device and software you’re using with it. The reason I am rating it 4 stars are because of its power delivery limit of 15W (it would have been trivially easy to add more power delivery capability considering the wattage the built in power supply this thing has) and the fact that opening it up is convoluted. It’s not particularly difficult, just kind of janky. In all honesty, though, these are nitpicks. When the product is working, it works well and with no issues

This thing has almost everything: simple setup, spacious enough for any full size card, even a stinking carrying handle for travelling on the go. It would be five stars if it had Thunderbolt 3 pass through/daisy chaining. Sadly, there's only one port on the back, and it's output.

Bought this to keep my 2011 Mac Mini useful for a few more years. Following instructions found online I was able to successfully use this to run a Radeon RX560 over the Mini's Thunderbolt 1 connection. Obviously the bandwidth is limited in that configuration, but it's still a lot better than stock
