Great controlled power distribution
The APC switched PDU, (Power Distribution Unit) are a great product, very expensive new (some as much as $800), but new comes with mounting hardware, a serial programming cable, and some with cord securing brackets. (Not manditory or have to have, these can be secured to racks many ways, serial cables are available from many sellers, manuals are downloadable from APC) Once configured for your network, simply plug in a network cat5 or cat6 cable, open a brwoser window on a computer on same network & enter ip address and password and you can see current being drawn, state of outlets, turn off/on any outlet, instant, delayed, reboot time. Records a log for events you set the parameters for, like over threashold load currents, who logged in from what ip address, you can turn all outlets ... So you know which piece of equipment you are cycling power to if you have a hung server, or any item you want to control, say a server, a light, fans, a camera, anything. There are many more features that I don't yet understand. you can connect the serial cable to a server and control all features from that connection also. Set, reste password, turn outlets on/off etc.
