Getting the cons out of the way first, this base model does have a low resolution screen that is not really suited for books like comics and manga on top of obviously not having color due to it being a low-end e-ink display. The user interface can be a bit clunky and not the smoothest to navigate, especially with the display being not exactly the quickest horse in the race due to it being (once again) a low-end e-ink display as well as having a low-end processor. It doesn't have most of the benefits the paperwhite models have such as better front-lighting, water-proofing, and a higher resolution screen, so I would say that's your best option if you can get one cheap enough. I happen to read a lot of light novels and this works completely fine for basic text. I've also yet to charge it since the first night I got it in the mail (over a week now) and it just hit 40% battery last night after using it a few hours every day during car rides so absolutely no complaints there. I managed to get pick this up for only $60 and I would say that for me personally, this model is well worth getting at the $40-$60 range if you plan on reading text-only books on it but I myself might actually upgrade to a paperwhite if I manage to find one around $80 or less for manga consumption. TL;DR - Get the basic model cheap for basic text-based books, get a paperwhite for books with a lot of images and for water-proofing.Read full review

I previously had a 7th or 8th generation and found it to be far superior to the generation 10 in all aspects. it was cheaper to buy, easier to turn pages, much easier to load and had a larger screen. In short, I am most disappointed in the 10 and wish I had bought a 7 or an 8 to replace the one I lost which also had a back light. Am I missing something here?

Now mind you I've had e-readers since the monochrome LCD screens and still have them and I recently bought a Likebook Ares. But then I bought my wife a Kindle Paperwhite and realized I still like the 6" platform so I bought myself this basic Kindle. I'm impressed. Granted it's not waterproof but that's not something I need but it does have the features you usually get in a higher priced platform. One thing I really like is the Send to Kindle app since I have well over 1500 e-books and that app makes it easy to put on my Kindle.

I really like it. Perfect size for reading and holding. Not sure about battery life. I have used almost half the battery in two days and didn’t use it that much. Also it’s been difficult to find a case that fits this one which is the basic Kindle 2019 10th generation issue, smaller than the same name 2018 issue. Why would they make different sized readers and call them the same thing?!! So beware when purchasing a case. Check dimensions.

The best features of this kindle are the back light for reading in the dark, the long battwry life and the touch screen. My husband can now enjoy reading his favorite novels anywhere he goes. Very happy with this purchase. Might have to get myself one!
