No more walking through the house, turning my head, trying to find the best signal for my cell phone. Just put the base unit where the signal is best and use a wireless hand set for land line quality. I wish that I could use it for DSL internet! Didn't have to have it unlocked to use a Red Pocket sim.

I have spent HOURS with AT&T Tech Support regarding this home base unit. There must be better products out there that allow an elderly person to keep their corded phone. THIS product is NOT a good solution. I can't even begin to tell you how much time I have wasted trying to get this to work properly. My 91 year old mom took a nice corded phone/answering machine that used to ring 7 times before it went to voicemail and hooked it up to this unit now - instead of relying on the unreliable and weekly - not -working telephone lines outside, and although she no longer has weekly outages where she has NO dial tone, this phone now only rings 4 times (17 seconds) before going to voicemail. 17 seconds is NOT nearly enough time for an elderly person to get to the phone. The GO PHONE voicemail has now taken over and this unit provides NO audible nor visual signal that she has a voice mail. To check as to IF she has a voice mail she now must go through a cumbersome process. The cost/month is cheaper, yes, but at what cost? What good is a phone if it only rings 4 times? I have spent hours and HOURS on tech support with AT&T about this issue. They claim her line is set up for the maximum, (30 seconds) of ringing, but it is NOT. I do NOT recommend this base unit. I'm not sure what other option there is for an elderly person that needs to keep a CORDED phone and can no longer rely on AT&T to maintain their outside lines on the phone poles, but this is a sorry excuse for a solution.Read full review

I purchased this item to replace my landline with a T-Mobile cellular line. After purchasing an unlock code, it was as easy as inserting the sim card and connecting it to my house phone. Voice quality is decent, and it seems to be very reliable. The built in battery backup is a nice feature as well.

Arrived quickly, in good condition. Does NOT have a sim card. I got one from H2OGo, and it works perfectly. At first it didn't connect with tower (got a red light), but then I held in power button for a minute and that seemed to reset it. It should save me $20 to $30 a month from our phone bill, and works with our cordless phone system in the house. Caller ID doesn't show names now, but does show numbers. Does need to be near a window at our house to get a strong enough signal. Otherwise, you can't tell you are on a cellular network, and I was able to transfer our long standing home phone number to it.

I bought this item to replace our old one just to find out AT&T couldn’t activate it. So now I have an item I’ll never use.
