I prefer this version to the newer one. This one doesn't seem to bogg down the computer as much, and better the editor is very nice to have so one can edit however I have noticed that the editor does seem to have problems with vista, I've recently gotten Civ 3 complete and the editor works great on it. I"m not sure if it's the program or maybe the complete is just a better program. But the editor works great and the game works just as fine. Civ 4 doesn't have an editor so I feel that Civ 3 has more to offer in that respect. Over all I enjoy playing this game.
Highly addictive game. Please make sure you have someone to tell you when to do important things, like: eat, sleep, bathe. Otherwise you will end up looking like you were doing exceptional social distancing.

The only reason I rated it a two star is because I failed to realize you must have internet to enjoy this package.....YOU MUST HAVE THE INTERNET TO ENJOY THIS PACKAGE! I remember this when this game came out years ago during the Civ III era. Well, the catch is simple: If you want to play Civ III without problems, it must load on Windows 2000 or XP (which I have); the problem, is that this technology is very much out of date for the internet...which renders this package obsolete to play. I have internet, but not on my Windows 2000 or XP computer---obviously. So, don't be like me and now be stuck with a complete perfectly made, beautiful software game that will sit in the closet..... I see this game as totally obsolete in the current world of PC gaming because the internet for Windows 2000 and XP is totally out dated.....Read full review
I first played this game after a friend of mine loaned it to me in high school. I didn't expect it to be so addicting! I would literally be in front of the computer for hours at a time playing it and I NEVER play pc games. I was very impressed with all the thought that went into this game, and appreciated the cultures that were represented in it. (I got to rebuild my tribe from the ground up! ^-^) I LOVED how realistic this game was. I also liked that it teaches you what is necessary for a nation to survive and thrive, using things that people don't even think about anymore. (I had a lot more respect for politics after playing this game let me tell ya!) Overall it is very strategic and provoking in its execution, and the music is pretty good to boot. I give it an A++++++! YOU ROCK SID!
This is one of the best games from the father of this genre. Sid Meier created the Civilization franchise in 1991 and it is still going strong. The game is part city building, part diplomacy and another part smash up. There really is something for everyone. This is the third in the series and also includes the Play The World add-on. It is missing the final add-on for this series but still it will suit any Civ player with the 16 civilizations to choose from. I highly suggest that if you have no life and the threats of divorce from your spouse don't phase you buy this game and become ruler of the world, even if it's only on your hard drive.
