Excellent book reader
This Kindle was received in great shape. Immediately charged it up and started reading. Very pleased with this purchase of a refurbished product. Looks new to me. Only minor complaint was that no charging cable was included.

Kindle Whispernet Technology Needs Major Improvement
I bought this for my husband as a gift. He loves to read and thought this would be a great gift for Summer travelling. What sold him on the Kindle was the Whispernet Technology that would allow him to browse for and buy books virtually anywhere you can get Sprint cell phone coverage. We live in an area that supposedly gets awesome reception - orange area. The device would show full bars, just like a cell phone, but could never get and maintain a connection. If he tried to download a book it would hang up for several minutes and then say the connection was lost. Twice he called Kindle support. He was told to go outside, go to a different location, or just download books off his computer with the provided USB Port. He tried moving to different locations but downloading books from his ... I bought this for my husband as a gift. He loves to read and thought this would be a great gift for Summer travelling. I am giving the Kindle 3 stars because as a eBook reader it is nice. It does need some redesign in the "Next Page" and "Back" buttons as they are very easy to press when you don't mean to. If you are perfectly fine with downloading your books from your computer then you will probably love the Kindle. If, however, you would like to take it with you on business or pleasure trips and don't have your computer you may not be able to download any books, newspapers, magazines or blogs. I think Wi-Fi technology would work better with the Kindle. There are more and more hotspots available now. Even in McDonalds. And most hotels and airports also offer Wi-Fi making it great for travel. So until that aspect is improved upon he will continue to read books the old fashioned way or use his iPod Touch for audio books.

Wasn't sure before I bought, but now a total Kindle convert
I wanted to get a used Kindle on Ebay because I wasn't conviced that I would "take to" a different reading experience, and I didn't want to spend all kinds of money only to find that I missed a traditional book. Well, it did feel a little odd for about the first 10 minutes, but now I am hooked. I figured out the way of holding it that works for me (cover folded back, holding with my left hand), and I realized some things. 1) Kindle is very light, much lighter than a typical book of it's size. 2) The e-ink is spectacular, absolutely crystal clear and sharp. I even found myself running my hands over the screen, because it looks so dimensional. It is super-easy to read in all kinds of light, including bright sun 3) The greatest thing: I can snuggle into the couch - get into the perfect ... I even still have a free hand to hold/drink my tea as I read. Frankly, after only a month, I have now lost the ability to read a normal book. I recently found myself attempting to click the page turn button on an ordinary (now, sub-par) paperback. Other characteristics - battery life is excellent, and browsing/shoping for new titles is a breeze. I am not altogether sure how the wireless works, but I simply turned it on, and I was able to connect, so that was simple, too. In short, I love my Kindle, and I am sure it won't be the only one our household ever owns...we are now converts, and there will be no going back!

You can download books, newspapers, and magazines for a fraction of the cost of you would pay to physically buy them. Just like you download ring tones on your cell phone, you can download a book from the Amazon Kindle Store. It is so easy---any person of any age can do this! It is about the size of a paperback book, so you can slip it in your purse, backpack, or briefcase, and read anywhere! It is so very easy to use, you only need to know the basics to get started reading. Buy a Kindle, save a few trees! Running out of shelf space--the Kindle is the answer. It holds over 200 books, etc., and uses a memory card to store countless more. I am so pleased with my Kindle, and I would highly recommend ... I'd had a tough time deciding between a Kindle and a Nook, but I'm happy with the Kindle 2 we bought second-hand through Ebay. The previous owner had taken great care of it, and it was almost in mint condition. I like the size and lightness. It is only black & white, not color like the new Nook, but the display is excellent at showing detail in pictures. For children's books, color might be important, but I don't think it is for books most adults read. There are many free books available for Kindle, and I have taken advantage of some of those. I have the 3G version of Kindle 2, and in my location (which is rural), Whispernet delivery of books works quickly and easily. On this Kindle, you can also do some basic Web surfing, which means I can check my email on the road without having to pay ... I downloaded a couple of word games on my Kindle, and they've been a lot of fun. My Kindle is an excellent multitasker. If I have it with me, I can keep myself in touch and entertained whenever I have unexpected downtime. I can have music, my choice of reading material, I can play games or Web surf. Heck, I even take it to church with me, since I have the Bible on it! I don't leave home without my Kindle. Can you tell I love this gadget?
