About this product

Product Information

The fourth game in Konami's console-style role-playing series is a prequel rather than a sequel, set a century and a half before the events of the original 1996 PlayStation game. Players take the role of a young, would-be hero, who will come to carry an item called the Rune of Punishment. Like all runes, this one is powerful, but it is also very dangerous, for it damages its wielder when it's used. Like earlier Suikoden games, this fourth edition also involves gathering the "Stars of Destiny," which are 108 people from all walks of life who can be teamed together to accomplish great deeds.

As the game begins, the player's character is just finishing his training at a naval academy, and being prepared for his first real battles. Because this game plays out across a string of mysterious islands, sea combat can be a regular occurrence, so the hero's training should serve him well. Much of the adventure still involves exploring the game world's various land masses, however, engaging in small-party turn-based battles and coaxing clues from other characters. Though the game's artwork remains notably stylized, characters have a more realistic (less anime-inspired) look than those of earlier Suikoden titles.

    Suikoden IV

The best RPG ever made! Not only is this an RPG in the traditional sense, but you also along your journey collect people who enrich your experience you create a home base and these people that you meet if you can compel them to join your team go to your home base and build and make it larger and they can sell you items they can impart intelligent to you they can give you better items and just make the storyline that much better. They're called the hundred and eight Stars because there are a hundred and eight of these people that you can meet along the way! Honestly this is the one game that I could sit and play for days on end and someone would have to unplug me and make me go to bed and eat LOL! This series of games to me is the best series that has ever been created!

  • well you cant hate it or can you

as far as the other suikodens are concerned this one is a little mediocre at times. what to complain about, well there are a few things: first thing to note is that it takes forever to get anywhere on your ship, secondly you get attacked on an average of 10-15 seconds thats just the average sometimes you get attacked before you move 1 ft. and the monsters are repetative (champion rune is way worth finding btw), the graphics are excellent but the hero has the face of some kind of freakish doll and why konami's suikoden still makes male characters for some reason look very female is very somewhat iritating, number 4 reason is that without help it would be impossible to figure out how to recruit all the stars of destiny let alone find some of the spread out islands they may inhabit, and then, ...

  • Not the best Suikoden, but still a decent title

This is actually my second time buying this game, and for some odd reason, i didn't like it the first time around. I bought it to only complete my suikoden collection and decided to give it another attempt. This time around, after taking the time to explore this game a little more, there's all kinds of things to do. you can fish for rare treasures play various mini-games like tops you can treasure hunt for unique items build your own armor customize your ship(s) fight with multiiple parties you can also run extremely fast and so on... the naval battles are a tad too easy, but all in all, a decent game

  • Great game for an amazing series!

I have played almost every Suikoden, and Suikoden IV definitely lives up to the name of the series. Great gameplay, great graphics, and a new twist on how to navigate the world map! The only issues I have with the game, is how SLOW it is to navigate the world map, yet it's realistic, so that's alright. The other issue, is now instead of the classic 6-character parties, it's now only four. Upsetting, but not too much of an issue. I recommend this game for people who want to experience a good RPG, but if you want his, try to get the other Suikodens, too!
