The Nintendo Entertainment System was a great system for experimentation for game genres that are still played today. Desert Commander holds the distinction of being one of the turn based tactics games implementing the top-down view, turn based action, that became a staple in the genre. Some of the best known wargaming series, such as Panzer General, have their roots in Desert Commander. The game itself has a clean presentation, easy to navigate commands, and an engaging AI. Recommended for any wargamer that wants to own a piece of history; as genre defining as the equally excellent NES Silent Service sub simulator. Give this one a try!

This game is a gem from the past. It can be played over repeatedly, as unit types and numbers can be adjusted before hostilities commence. If you are a novice at military tactics its an excellent teaching tool. Units need to be supplied, terrain effects both movement and defensive capabilities, aircraft need to be landed and serviced. One minor complaint is the stupidity of the computer opponent, but HEY its an 8-bit game. What do you expect? This game is a hoot.
Lukie games gave great depth to their game, "Desert Commander" and saw to it that the game came in working condition. Their was no flaws and the game came in excellent working condition.
