The MC 30 will hold its own against most modern tube amplifiers. It has that lush highly addictive McIntosh sound. The secret sauce is McIntosh's unity coupled output transformer and the tube DC rectification. Do not even think about simply plugging in an at 60 year old amplifier and expecting good results. You can be sure that most of the capacitors and resistors will be far off from spec. Worst case you may experience a spectacular short circuit damaging the Unobtanium output transformer beyond repair. Have the amplifier shipped directly to a well qualified tube amp technician. You can easily spend $500-$1000 for a basic refurbishment. Because of the high quality of modern passive components the refurbished MC 30 will sound better than when it was new. If you're looking for a a cosmetic refurbishment or to replace tube sockets or to modernize the RCA jack and the speaker terminals, be ready to spend quite a bit of money on top. It's worth the money to enjoy this classic for the rest of your life.Read full review
