I keep these on hand. These spacers help stabilize Hollowtech II crank sets. Depending upon the machining of the shell, the crank can shift from left to right if the bike falls on the non drive side, and may easily shift right to left under extreme rocking caused by the worst climb of a ride. Even when properly installed there may be a gap between the spider and the opposing crank arm. When I repair someone's bottom bracket, I place these spacers between the non-drive crank arm and the bracket bearing. I put no pressure on the spacers as they only serve to reduce the spindle shift caused by shock or stress. I have seen too many bearing failures with hollowtech because of improper assembly. These spacers reduce the anguish.
