Seller Notes: “Very Good-Excellent overall vint cond: This is the 2nd of a pr of Post WWII mid-20th c vint ... “Very Good-Excellent overall vint cond: This is the 2nd of a pr of Post WWII mid-20th c vint Japanese med-lg format B & W aquatint prints, realized by the same Japanese artist. They were found together in a portfolio w/their orig hinged mat systems intact & protecting them over the yrs, keeping the surface of the printmaking vellum paper, free from scuffs & abrasions. As in the 1st of the 2 prints, this print, like its sister aquatint, offers the poetic graphic iconography of a pr of outstretched arms & hands holding rags & seeming to clean the surface of glass, allowing them to better see outside. As many in contemporary post-WWII Japan are apt dwellers & subjected to the physical, as well as psychological challenges of living in close proximity to others in any number of densely populated Japanese cities, the window then, is perhaps more than just a view onto the outside world. It becomes a sacred portal, a messenger of the outside world, often foreboding but also w/light & promise.”
