And this is definitely not your usual war movie, soldier homecoming movie, or road trip movie. It almost effortlessly blends a trio of intriguing characters coming "home" to find that things aren't how they hoped. As TK Poole, Peña plays a cocky, self-assured sergeant coming back to the U.S. to visit his fiancée. McAdams plays Private Colee Dunn, delivering the guitar of a friend who didn't make it back to his family. And Robbins plays Sergeant Fred Cheever, a man returning home to his family and retiring from the military. Each of these characters has depth, and a unique ... I found Colee to be the glue holding them together. TK and Cheever have their own insecurities and Colee's innocent demeanor kept the serious scenes from becoming too overwrought, while keeping the trip going. There were a couple of fun things that kept happening. One was whenever the group would thank someone, you'd hear them reply "No, thank you!" And the other was Colee's fascination with wanting to play tourist as they headed across the country. Eventually they did stop for a picnic in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, but only to stop her from crying. Each character brought their own biases to the world, but even more than that the world's biases were ever present each time they interacted with a group of people: a group of clueless college students, politically minded yet clueless people in the midwest, or even police officers. The movie was about three soldiers who came back from fighting in the army. It not should some of the psychological effects trama can cause to those who fight for country but also the obsticles they face in their personal relationships upon their return. There is one man having to deal with his wife leaving hime but not for another man but her growning independence in his absence. There is a women who is dealing with a death of a fellow soldier who also comes to be a love that is not who he seemed to be. There is also another man dealing with different relationship problem. They all end up on the road together iin oder to get home and on this journey they not only work on their issues bit form a bond. And in the end that bond bond unites then and leads them to a common solution or journey. ... The movie was about three soldiers who came back from fighting in the army. Though very little war is shown the movie takes you into each of the three veterans life's, after returning home from a tour of duty in Irag. It uses comedy to help with their stories, which help to deal with their wounds of war, physical and non-physical. Don't let the title "The Lucky Ones" fool you. Surviving war does not mean you were lucky. A great movie that I recommend highly.This is a movie that demonstrates the bond that solders at war develop. Great Movie!
Wonderful movie! The three actors bring a top notch performance. Very entertaining. Some very funny scenes. Rachel McAdams is wonderful as the soldier who has somehow maintained a trusting attitude toward the world. Tim Robbins brings a wonderful performance as a soldier coming home to some difficult choices. Michael Pena plays the "I've know what I'm doing" guy that comes to find out that maybe he doesn't. The three together give wonderful performances and have a chemistry that makes this a memorable movie and a must see!Wonderful movie! The three actors bring a top notch performance. A Really Good Little Picture....
I didn't expect to love this movie so much. But, the story of these three vets of the Iraq war is one that kept me thinking about it long after it was over. A sad, funny, sweet, engaging movie with great characters. You'll remember these people long after you watch the movie. If you are an active serviceperson, or a vet, you most likely will have a story of your own that this reminds you of. I'll never forget my cross country trips with two or three other airmen to share the ride. You're gonna love this movie.I didn't expect to love this movie so much.
