This movie is hilarious. When you watch it, you realize why movies from this era made the movie industry explode. Cary Grant and Myrna Loy have incredible chemistry together. She is a no nonsense judge that is raising her younger sister, played by a teenage and beautiful Shirley Temple. Cary Grant is laid back bachelor who ends up in the judge's court room then at her little sister's school. Susan, the little sister, believes she has fallen in love with him and chaos ensues. It is incredibly refreshing to see a movie in which not all of the comedy is provided by repeated and predictable sexual innuendos. Cary Grant is amazing as the bachelor and he cultivates serious feelings of sympathy at his plight at the hands of the two sisters. I haven't enjoyes a movie this much in years. I watched it on a Sunday night and bought the DVD on half.com the next day. Believe me, this movie is a great one! You remind me of a man!Read full review
I recently bought a DVD entitled The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and Shirley Temple, with a small part played by Rudy Vallee. I think everyone over 50 loves all of these stars. It is light-hearted and innocently romantic - a welcome change from today's graphic movies. Putting the movie on while I'm working around the house makes any chore become a great excuse for watching a thoroughly entertaining movie, and transports me to my high school years when all the girls had a crush on a handsome math teacher! I have not seen this movie for sale in any form in any store, and was thrilled to find it on ebay, listed among Cary Grant's movies!
This isn't the best Cary Grant movie by far, but it's still better than pretty much anything you'll pick up at Borders or on Ebay. At this point in his career, Cary Grant had become Cary Grant--so almost any movie of his was about the persona he had established: the man of the world, suave and witty, relaxed in his ability to handle anything that came his way. What comes his way is an infatuated high-schooler (Temple) and an icy, no-nonsense sister (Myrna Loy), who happens to be a judge. The joke here is sentencing Cary Grant back to high school & its many indignities. He survives both high school and what in some ways is a very weird plot. A good bit of light fun, but it will have to live in the shadow of The Awful Truth, Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, Only Angels Have Wings, Notorious, North by Northwest, Charade. But let's not complain that he made so many wonderful movies!Read full review
This is a little known film staring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, & Shirley Temple in her first film as a "young adult". Grant plays the part of an artist who catches the romantic attention of Temple who conceives a "Major League" crush. Loy is Temple's older sister and guardian, but also a local Judge. Grant gets in trouble, finds himself in Loy's courtroom, and the story unfolds in the best comedic tradition as Grant finds himself "sentenced" to escort the infatuated Temple to her High School functions until the attraction wears off! With quite a few unexpected twists and turns, this is an excellent movie for the entire family!
This is a classic comedy movie. Carey Grant is hilarious as the misunderstood artist who happens to find himself in the middle of indirect mishaps & legal problems. Myrna Loy is in typical comedic form with her quick-wit replies between her, Grant and Shirley Temple. This movie is always a joy and belly-chuckle to watch!
