"Twelve Sharp" is an extremely funny book and much better than the last Stephanie Plum book, "Eleven on Top". Maybe not as good as some of the originals, but holds one of the top five spots for sure! Most of the regular characters are included: Stephanie's parents, Grandma Mazur, Stephanie's on and off boyfriend Joe Morelli, Lula, Connie, and Sally Sweet are all there. I personally was thrilled that Janet Evanovich gives a little more insight into the mysterious Ranger's private life. He is so yummy and this makes him even more human and well his "babe" just gets better and better! Evanovich adds a new character, Melvin Pickle, who brings a lot of fun to the book. Some of the captures that Lula and Stephanie make are wonderful, typical screw ups that make you laugh till it hurts. Evanovich wisely ditches some of the tired plot lines such as Stephanie's car always being blown up and breathes new life into other plot lines - especially an incredibly funny scene during a wake. Yes Grandma is up to it again! When Ranger and Morelli BOTH move in with her...well ths takes the book to new heights! The book is hilarious, even the tension filled ending has laugh out loud moments. A wonderful read.Read full review
My grown daughters and I were avid Stephanie Plum fans. I turned them onto the series, and they really have enjoyed the books. However, the three of us decided that, by the 10th book, things were getting a bit stale. Stephanie and her cute little t-shirts and tight jeans, and the loony bail jumpers, yada yada yada. THIS book was better because it involved Ranger's own story. We need a bit more Ranger, a little less "hot Stephanie" and how everyone lusts after her. The story was more fun to read, and I found myself a bit more engaged. Evanovich cannot do this for EVERY Plum book hereafter, I realize, so I just don't know how she is going to keep this series going. And going. Maybe more Joe? Maybe more Rex? How about more contemporary types of crimes, like identity theft or Internet espionage? I dunno! DEFINITELY less Grandma Mazur, though! The old woman is starting to annoy me. :) Oh, and I think Lula has got to have some kind of awakening. I am tired of reading the same old lines out of Lula. I read the books and I am pretty much saying her next line before I even get to it! Sorry, Janet!Read full review
THIS is Janet Evanovich's best book yet. It moves along at a good clip and does not rehash old information like in the first books of the Stephanie Plum series. Those books, you could almost start at Chapter 4 and not miss anything because you're just reading the 'same old stuff' carried over from the previous books: 'I'm Stephanie Plum. I'm a bounty hunter.' Yes, we got that in Book 1. Plus those got boring with Stephanie and Lula doing the same stupid things over and over again from book to book. I was getting very irrated that they didn't LEARN from those mistakes early on. Don't get me wrong -- her books ARE funny. I've had some sections on earlier books where I've laughed so hard I had tears and had to re-read a segment something like 3 - 4 times, still cracking up, to get past it and move on. Grandma Mazur is up to her old tricks at the (formerly Stiva's) funeral home -- now run under David and 'Scooter' -- who know only too well about Grandma Mazur's reputation. Sally Sweet appears as well. This book has a more 'real feel' to it.Read full review
I have read all 12 of the Stephanie Plum series and this is not one of my favorites. Altho I did laugh out loud a couple of times, it did not put me in stitches as they usually do. I thought no car blow-ups was great..it was getting old. Grandma wasn't in it as much as I would like. I liked more about Ranger, he is great..babe...I would like to see Ranger make more of an effort to "woo" Stephanie, not just keep talking about it.. The book was also quite short??
I've been reading the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich since she started it. Reading number twelve was a "must". The book follows the activities of all the main characters: Stephanie, Joe, Ranger, Connie and the others and introduces new cases that Stephanie becomes involved in. It's funny, scary, serious, sometimes a little predictable but overall quite enjoyable. I love all the characters but I was glad that Stephanie's sister and her three kids were less visible this time. The book is hard to put down. I can hardly wait for number thirteen to be released. I hope it shows a closer relationship for Stephanie and Ranger. I like Joe but it doesn't seem that their "on again-off again" relationship is what Stephanie really wants or needs in her life. After reading and enjoying all of the Plum books, I would certainly keep buying any others in the series. I would suggest starting at the beginning and reading books one through eleven to get a better feel for the characters and story line. It is possible to enjoy book twelve by itself as Ms. Evanovich does give brief backgrounds of each character as they become active in the story. I just enjoyed each book.It really makes me look forward to the next one even more. Read the book, you'll enjoy it.Read full review
