I'm using this with a 2018 mac mini and it works pretty much seamlessly. The first time connecting is awkward and it helps to have the eGPU connected to the correct thunderbolt port but once it's been connected, then restarting works fine. My main reason for getting this was to be able to speed up Davinci Resolve not for improved display performance so I can't address that although that's a function of the GPU card you use rather than the enclosure.
