About this product

Product Information

Designed with very young children in mind, Mario's Early Years: Fun With Letters takes place in seven different worlds: Alphabet World, Last Letter World, Vowel World, Building World, Sound World, Sentence World, and First Letter World. Each world features a series of point and click games designed to help youngsters learn their letters and words. You can play the game as Mario, Princess Toadstool, or Yoshi. When you point and click on an item, the computer tells you things like what the word or letter is or how it fits in a sentence. Below each play field (except in the Alphabet World), Mario's brother Luigi lies sleeping. If you wake him up, this adds a new dimension to the game. The computer begins asking you to identify letters, fill in sentences, and other simple tasks related to words and letters. The items depicted include apples, pigs, caps, suns, and other common objects.

    Nostalgia Over Gameplay

I did not buy this for "compelling gameplay." I bought it because this was a rush of nostalgia to my inner-child. It definitely is a fun look back at how gaming companies tried to make "educational" games, but it is by no means a replacement for Hooked on Phonics. If you grew up with the Mario's Early Years series or Mario in general, it is a great purchase to relive your childhood, but do not expect a fast-paced (or even moderately-paced) adventure.

  • Excellent. Highly recommend.

Great gameplay. I love it when I was younger. Now my kids enjoy playing this game. This game definitely put them in my past.

  • Educational Game, Great For Pre-Adolescent

I actually played this game game as a pre-teen when my mom purchased it for my younger brother. It was still fun to make it through the levels, but became boring. It was a great educational tool for the younger ones though, as it teams education with the character their older siblings play -Mario.

  • Great buy!!

I had never heard of this game before. I am glad that I spent the money on it. They should make more games that are learning based. My four year old likes to play it and I don't even thing he knows that he is learning something from a game. lol. A great buy for any parent that has younger children that want to spend their time on a game system!

  • Marios Early Years: Fun With Letters (Super Nintendo)

I decided to buy it for my 4 year old daughter. My 7 year old daughter thought it was a joke. Actually, my 4 year old daughter thought it was quite boring. She has probably only played it 3 times (and we have owned it for 5-6 months now). Now knowing whatthe game is like, if I were to do it all over again, I would not buy it. Leappad or even preschool books are much more fun and interesting than this game.
