About this product

Product Information

Featuring music by Psykosonik, a funky pop-metal-rap band, X-Kaliber 2097 puts players in the role of Slash, who must thrust, parry, slice, and swipe his way through a dark future world of mutants, morphs, and other bad guys. The sword can also release a bolt of super-powerful energy, which leaves the player vulnerable as it slowly moves across the screen. Eventually, Slash will face his twin brother, who wields a sword as powerful as the X-Kaliber. In addition to the standard side-scrolling slash-'em-up game, the cartridge contains a two-player, one-on-one fighting game in which gamers select from a variety of interesting fighters with a pleasingly offbeat assortment of attacks and weapons. For example, Tattoo uses his rose tattoo for special attacks while Kane fights using a top hat and cane. Neither game is a standout in its respective genre, but solid gameplay, realistic graphics, and a killer soundtrack make the package worthwhile.

  • Activision Ruins A Great Game

The original Japanese title of this game is "Sword Maniac", and it stands as one of my absolute favorite games on the SNES/Super Famicom. Two legendary video game composers got their start with game, going on to work on classics such as "Tactics Ogre", "Odin Sphere", and "Final Fantasy XII." It was challenging, but not too brutal, and the AI was fairly intelligent. Activision saw fit to take this great game, change the entire plot, give it an idiotic title that followed the 90's pattern of putting "X" in front of everything, and replace it's music with digitized version of a quickly forgotten techno group called Psychosonik. They also made the AI dumb as a post, and made the overall experience simplistic and bland. That's not to say this game is horrible. After all, the shell of the ...

  • X-Kaliber 2097

This just happens to be one of the first super nintendo games i owned, getting it for my 7th birthday. I sold this game when money got tight, just rebought it for old times sake. Its a decent side-scrolling game, but nothing too special. If you can pick it up for a few bucks, i would recommend it, but dont go overboard with the price. I give it a 6 out of 10.
