We bought a Dyson DC35 10 years ago. Last month my wife said that the trigger switch was broken. Troubleshooting determined the problem was a dead battery. Found a reasonably priced battery on ebay. New battery is rated 1,000 mAh more than the OEM battery. DC35 runs like new, a the extra mAh allows the vacuum to run much longer before recharging. 5 stars for sure.

Not sure if it was the battery, but when I connected it the motor started smoking and flames came out of the motor housing. I measured the volts after the fact and they were above 22.2V, but I think that is expected with a full charge. Mine was the DC35. Not sure why there was an issue. My other battery was 3.0Ah, but I thought the 4.0Ah would just last longer.

This is the best portable vacuum I've ever used. Fortunately the battery lasts longer than the jobs I use it for. The charger charges for about 3.5 hours and then turns itself off, as indicated by a green LED on the wall unit in order to prevent overcharging (hopefully extending the battery life). The vacuum unit can't be used when the charger is plugged in. However, the battery can be removed from the vacuum unit (like a power tool) and charged separately -- possibly for folks who have a spare battery. But/for the relatively short battery life, I would rate it an excellent product. Nevertheless, I still give it a strong buy recommendation.
I bought the Dyson handheld because of the Dyson reputation. It does the job, but at a cost, and I don't only mean price. Pros: Has a good suction power and it does the job. Its easy to clean out once you get used to the latches. Cons: Two major, one minor. First, the battery lasts 15 minutes before it needs a recharge. I don't know about you but I barely get one set of steps done in 15 minutes, I have 4 sets. Second you have to hold the trigger the entire time its in use, there is no set to "on" feature. After a few minutes of vacuuming my finger wants to fall off. MAJOR inconvenience. Its big and bulky (not heavy though), you aren't attaching this puppy to the wall (not an option anyway). Find a convenient place to plug it in, you will be going there A LOT. At the end of the day, for the price paid for the unit, I could have bought 5 less expensive brands and had longer battery and no trigger issues. Not recommending this product.Read full review
For the past year I have been dealing with my Dyson vacuum working for 20 seconds at a time then turning off. Couldn’t find anyone to repair it and no support from Dyson. It was very disappointing. I started reading some forums and it sounded like it was a battery problem. A local repair shop also confirmed this and stated that they searched everywhere online and a battery for my older model wasn’t available for sale but they could offer me $20 toward the purchase of a new vacuum. Wow. It took me about 10 minutes to find this replacement battery. The seller provided specific detailed information and photos showing that the replacement would be the correct fit for my model AND the reviews were all great. Best money I’ve ever spent. I only wish is that I would have discovered it sooner. The reviews that say the vacuum works better than it did with the original battery are SO TRUE. I had the same experience. And the high setting has almost too powerful of suction to vacuum my sofa. I was so close to throwing out my Dyson for a brand new model. So happy I didn’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Read full review
