I am partial to the story, because I had a Red Ryder BB gun as a kid, but it certainly is a wonderful part of the story. Peter Billingsley was perfect casting as "Ralphie" Parker, as is Darren McGavin as "the old man" & Melinda Dillion as Mrs. Parker--Let's just say the whole cast is just perfect. I look forward to Xmas to put it in the DVD player--((Get the Blu-ray, not only for the 1080 picture, but for the features which are great, commentary from Billingsley & Director Bob Clark, the Daisy air rifle story, & conversations with the cast, etc.))--or even in the summer for a laugh. My favorite line "it was soap poisoning"--gets me every time!!--Buy it, you won't be sorry......frankjann2012

Blu-ray is awful quality. The sound briefly cuts in and out for most of the movie. Extremely annoying. And no, it's not my equipment. None of the other 100s of movies I own do that.

One of my movie favorites of any genre, and a definite favorite over the holidays. I have to watch it at least once in December. BUT the blu-ray is not remastered, it's the same picture and sound quality as the DVD, it is not in HD/1080p. It's pretty pixilated, and I've played it on a few high quality blu-ray players and TVs, it made no difference. This was a lazy release, where the producers merely put the DVD movie on a blu-ray disc. Sad. Am genuinely looking forward to the release of a true remaster for blu-ray or even 4k. Is the Steel Book Blu-ray the same story? One of these days I'll have to see it at a movie theater's special showing.

This is an excellent Christmas season movie. Full of humor and yet it hits home on many of the experiences we all have fond memories of. And some not so fond memories, like having you mouth washed out with soap, or being tormented by the school bully. Great fun all the way from start to finish. One of our family's traditional "must see" movies for over 40 years.

When the film was released in 1983 it did not do well at the box office. I remember that It is a good film, funny. Stands the test of time thirty years after it's release Grown into a big deal at Christmas time to watch it. How the status of the film has grown Good to have the film wide screen here My complaint is the extras are old. Thirty year anniversary as I input this and it featured an extra from the twenty year edition of the film I see no difference from the DVD versions & this blu ray If you are a fan of the film get this just remember if you have previous editions of the film on DVD you already have the extras
